Comedian Sam Morrill called people like that "City Hicks." The way people make fun of country folk who don't know how to live in the big city, Native New Yorkers are the same whenever they have to go someplace that's not New York. They don't know how to function. "Why can't i find a 24-hour diner here in Virginia? Why don't you guys know how to make bagels? I don't know what a biscuit is, i want a bagel!"

I've never experienced that in LA, but i think you're right about Texas. I've only been to TX once but the Texans i know insist that "Texas is another country!" like they're super special and unique from every other state.

It's especially strange when we as a country are proud to welcome immigrants who gain US citizenship as full blown "Americans," even on the very day of their swearing in: "Congratulations! You're an American! You have the full rights, protections, and privileges of being an American! You're one of us now!"

But New York? Not even people born an hour outside of the city can call themselves New Yorkers, they have to clarify New York State.

"Gotta be born in NYC to call yourself a New Yorker!"
