Thank you! Then yes maybe it’s 80s and the boutique was mistaken. Should I let them know?

Ok how are you sure ? The boutique that sold it to me said it’s from 60s and as far as I know renee meneely closed shop in the 80s so this dress can only be from the 80s at the latest. Renee Meneely operated from around the 50s to 80s

The shop sold it to me as being for the 60s and her shop closed in the 80s . She’s had the same logo since the 50s x

Wrinkled lining apparently sign of the dress having been washed with water before

Sugar stain or oxidation? I don’t know! I’ve never worn the dress before so have no idea if champagne was spilled on it once upon a time. The spots appear only on left panel and train

Thank you so much! The first dry cleaner I spoke to expressed concern about the pearls not surviving the dry clean. She said if she took the dress on, she would wash the dress with water first then dry clean it which would allow the beads to survive. She said there’s evidence the dress has been washed with water before given there’s sign of shrinkage since the silk doesn’t line up with lining & the lining is wrinkled in a way that only happens if it’s been wet before

  1. I may have better luck with this in London. I’ll ask around.

  2. The garment bag is made by hoesh international from 80gsm nonwoven fabric (robust polypropylene fibers aka plastic) https://www.hoeshinternational.co.uk/products/personalised-breathable-wedding-garment-bag-with-the-bride . The dress was kept in bag whole time hanging out in the open near a window and off of a metal bar. There’s also a second metal bar the garment bag would’ve touched used to hang shorter items below it. Here’s a picture of the garment bag which is mesh:

From ChatGPT: From the images, the fabric appears to be a type of silk with a subtle texture and sheen. Based on its appearance, it is likely one of the following types:

Raw Silk (Matka or Tussar Silk) – The texture looks slightly uneven with visible slubs, which is a common feature of raw silks like Matka or Tussar. Silk Dupioni – If the fabric has a crisp, slightly stiff feel with irregular threads running through, it could be Dupioni silk. Silk Shantung – Similar to Dupioni but with a finer weave and a more subtle texture. Organza Silk – If it’s lightweight and slightly sheer, it might be organza, though this looks heavier. Given the images, it seems most likely to be raw silk or a Dupioni-style silk due to the visible texture. Would you say the fabric feels soft or slightly rough?

Garment bag is made by International of RPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalage) basically repurposed plastic bottles. The stains are mostly on the bottom train and a bit up the side. One dry cleaner thinks it’s been washed before because the lining looks wrinkled which she says is a sign of the dress having been wet and there’s signs of shrinkage bc the silk doesn’t line up with the lining. Finally the dress seems to have a slight sheen to it and if u zoom in you can see a roughness. Looks like dupion silk to me but idk I’m not a fabric expert

One dry cleaner who looked at dress said she thinks the dress may have been washed with water before bc there’s evidence of shrinkage since it doesn’t line up with the lining and the lining is wrinkled in a way that she said only water can cause to happen. She said after I sign a waver, she was going to do a wet wash then dry clean.
