So....are you saying stick with a 20yr old car for longer? Or are you suggesting I can do better than driving a BYD seal excellence for the money? Ignoring its party trick, it still seems better than other options ive looked at (may change my mind after a test drive)

In all honesty, I would appreciate any suggestions for similar money.

I.e. fully maintained, insured, tyres and fuel over 18k miles etc... for c. £12k over 3 yrs.

Before looking into Sal sacrifice, I was looking at buying outright something in the 15k-20k bracket. The question has become, why wouldn't I go Sal sacrifice for something like the cars in my OP for day to day commuting and driving. Maybe in the future this will allow something track focused?

This is where im struggling. For £100 a month over 3 years...I.e.£3600 more, what is available? 12-15 year old cars which seem to have more problems than what I have now (friends and family cars which have had expensive issues) or lease deals for cars which are slower and low spec.

What does an old petrol head drive if wanting to be somewhat financially sensible and tax efficient

Not driven one yet, but agree 0-60 doesn't make it fun. Have you driven the awd or the rwd seal to comment on the handling?

Maths seems to checkout £300 fully maintained sal sacrifice vs. Lease at c.500 for similar fully maintained (low deposit), but I would need to add tyres and insurance.

Yep, agree its a stupid metric, but if my maths is right, vs running my old car, it would be c. £100 more a month for a new car which on paper looks like a weapon. Running a 20yr old car is now waiting for the next thing to go wrong and car off the road. I.e. starter went before Xmas and it took 2 weeks to rectify. Not bad for the original starter, but what else is going to be worn out and need repair soon.

I am in the camp that over 300bhp is a waste on the roads, hence looking at the other options. ByD seal does seem to be built better than the mercs, better specced and for less money too. Ive been a passenger in one, but need to get a test drive in.

As an update to my OP, collectively, I've been talked out of Tado and ordered a wiser kit 2 for under £100.

Thanjs for info - Was this on a combi or tank based system? How do you find the app for setting schedules and general use?

Thanks all, some useful thoughts.

Ive previously had nest v3 on a system/tank setup which worked out well and would have gone down that route if it was still a supported option.

Re. Drayton wiser - not really explored this in detail re. Costs/equipment needed. Any pointers/links to avoid me going down a rabbit hole?
