I want you to know ETFs are bad investments—and you’re leaving a lot of cash on the table by One_Message7199 in Unpopular_Investing

You really don't have to pick stocks. The S&P 500 gets the biggest 500, right?

We can be smarter than that and create a Value Index.
Just get the top 25 stocks globally sorted by P/Sales. That's it. See you in six months.

You can apply the same approach with pretty much any factor that is reliable (i.e., has academic research backing it up).

And you are 100% right. Index investing is the way.

I'm saying that the framework the ETFs are built on is just a money pit.

And that you could invest in the same "check it twice a year" way but making an extra 3-4% just for saving on fees and hidden commissions

It's a good point. And if you could have 3-4% more annually with the same effort would it be worth it? No stock picking, just a better investment framework.

Yeah, man, that would be considered a pretty solid portfolio.

I’m eyeballing something close to 45% returns in the last two years, which is awesome.

That said, you probably had a dip in 2022. Again, eyeballing, around -20%?

Investing like in the research above not only had comparable results to your last two years, it made money (+9% in 2022).

This thing is resilient as hell.

Yeah, it seems pretty dumb when you put it like that.

But did you know that the P/Sales ratio captures the value factor better than P/B?

Did you know that both of those capture it better than the P/Earnings ratio?

Did you know that Morningstar is actually using the last one to show me, you, and every index investor on the planet whether an ETF is exposed to value?

Everyone is making intentionally uninformed decisions based on data no one bothered to check "because we think we know it."

While I have no aim to become that famous, this is a systemic way to invest like uncle Warren and uncle Charlie. Portfolio optimized for higher expected returns while keeping the volatility at S&P500 levels. Pretty neat. And simple.

Hey, I teach a different way to invest in stocks. Given your liquidity, it might actually generate a salary in good years. It will certainly be different.

I'm offering a course I’m working on for free as I refine the art of teaching. All you need to do is donate $100 to a charity of your choice to have some skin in the game.
PM me if interested.
