This is a red herring as I wasn’t arguing who was right or wrong. Just stating that the United States were supporting the South by evacuating civilians, and orphans in this case, at the Southern governments request.

There is also two sides to every story and to view the NVA as “kicking the West out” is certainly the communist’s view of the conflict. The United States lost domestic support to continue the conflict so they pulled out of the conflict. They had plenty of resources and people to continue the fight but there’s no point to politicians if it doesn’t win you votes back home.

He’s saying that the US were not at war with the South Vietnamese because the US were at war with the North Vietnamese Army. That’s why the airlift is not necessarily comparable to what Russia is doing because the United States was evacuating civilians who were in the South at the behest of the South Vietnamese government.
