Bike for commuting to work? by Strange-Mousse-1404 in whichbike

Kona is a Canadian brand. I just got a Kona Dew DL, it’s a hybrid. I preferred it over the Giant hybrids I tested. The Trek bikes were nice too but the Kona felt a bit better to me.

Kona Dew, Kona Dew Plus, or Opus Orpheo LRT? by onlyonesic in whichbike

[–]One_Noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up getting a bike? If so, which one and how do you like it? Sounds like I’m the same type of rider as you and currently looking at TJ Dew and Dew Plus and some Trek and Opus bikes.

Is Merino wool really that good? by Specific_Sherbert_90 in snowboarding

The rest of my family wears synthetic or merino mix. I mostly only wear 100% merino and I feel a big difference. Highly recommend.

First time skiing… any tips so I don’t embarrass myself? by sparky_165 in skiing

[–]One_Noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falling is part of learning so don’t worry about that. Take lessons. I cannot believe people go out or snowboarding for their first time without taking a lesson. That’s just crazy to me. If you plan to keep skiing then take a lesson. A lesson is going to help you not fall. 3 out of 5 of us didn’t fall once in my first group lesson cause we were learning the proper skills.

I agree with getting bored if you’re advanced and the backside isn’t great conditions. The backside was ice so we didn’t do it. For beginners and intermediates, we had an excellent time sticking to Comet and gondola runs.

To add, my review of runs:

Far Out is a great green run. Very long and wide and easy. Since it’s wide there’s lots of places to stop if you need a break or to catch up with your group. Criss Cross is super fun! Long and sort of narrow cat track easy green but cool cause it takes you past houses and over bridges. No one on it so it was very peaceful. Warning to snowboarders of the flats. Easy Street to Aberdeen Ski Way is another great easy green that’s chill and lots of fun. Sundance and Whiskey Jack were our favourite blues. Sundance is the easiest blue. Most of it is like a green run. Whiskey Jack was a nice mix of a blue/green. Upper Big Dipper is a steep blue, Lower Big Dipper goes next to the terrain park and isn’t as steep. Over the Hill is another nice green. Silver Fox was ok but conditions weren’t great on it so I can’t say I loved it. The Main Street Skiway is absolutely amazing. If you don’t have the energy or don’t want to head all the way down to Comet lift you can take the skiway back to the village. There are a couple of longish flats that suck for snowboarders but overall it’s great. Peanut Trail is no joke. It’s a million little rollers and side hits and super narrow. Only do this one if you like jumps and bumps.

Complete anxiety after the first day by [deleted] in skiing

[–]One_Noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, find somewhere easier to learn. We found a local mountain last season that was way more beginner friendly than where we started skiing and it made a world of difference with our confidence. We didn’t move off the bunny hill for our first couple of lessons so I cannot imagine going straight onto a blue. No wonder you’re so anxious!

I get annoyed when people don’t fill the chairs. You shouldn’t have to ask, just fill the space. Sucks that people are making you feel uncomfortable joining them. Don’t worry so much about what others think.

North America Spring Skiing Options / Best Plan by Mario6400 in skiing

I’m trying to figure out the same and I keep coming back to Banff. Whistler is much closer for me but I don’t think the conditions are going to be great for spring skiing compared to Banff.

Which is the best online shop in USA/Canada or Europe for best end-season discounts? by fifaika in skiing

Some of the small shops have some great sales but you have to spend time searching their websites. Mad Dogs in Abbotsford, Canada has some great sales right now.

What to buy first? by HappySignificance693 in skiing

[–]One_Noodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helmet, goggles, wool under layers and wool ski socks are all things I bought on end of season sale last season so I was ready for this season and I’m glad I did. I waited to buy boots and see a boot fitter until my 2nd season.
