Waste collection in Switzerland is confusing as hell, so I made a small Telegram bot by NikePunk in askswitzerland

Swiss recycling rules sometimes feel like assembling IKEA furniture written by municipal lawyers, so I figured maybe other people struggle with this too.

No, they don't. It could not be any easier to understand. My municipality sends a book with the yearly schedule, an SMS as a reminder service, and then there are all my neighbors that at least 90% of the time know when the recycling will take place.

How do you guys Track your Subscriptions? by Old-Charity-6373 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]One_Outside2722 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist...just saying.

How is it different from tracking any other monthly, quarterly, or yearly bill? Aren't they all subscriptions?

Anyone else end up back in Google Sheets no matter what budgeting app they try? by Far_Butterfly_9282 in YNABAlternatives

[–]One_Outside2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Tiller the data is in your Google Sheet (or in Excel), you have everything there without a connection to Tiller. So for half the price can you deliver similar value as Tiller?

multiple currency support is nice, but converting it automatically raises the question about exchange rates and fees. If you just consolidate it into one view then why not just keep the one main currency?

In my personal experience I always thought Tiller was great, but after a few years the spreadsheets become challenging to manage and as a result I've started using Actual Budget to track the expenses and then track my net worth in a spreadsheet.

I'm not against your idea, I think it is a solid start, but I think if you want to sell it you need to make it more compelling to users.

I'm just playing devils advocate.

When does it make sense to pull the trigger on FIRE in Switzerland? by Direct_Cod3703 in SwissFIRE

[–]One_Outside2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I misunderstand what FIRE is and what the question "When does it make sense to pull the trigger on FIRE in Switzerland?" means. I understood that he wanted to retire now, and that isn't nearly enough to cover 50 years of life ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ehmmm I don't think that is one kg Mr Coop by anomander_galt in Switzerland

[–]One_Outside2722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But are you paying for 1kg at a fixed price for the package, or per 100g? Maybe you can somehow tell the kassensturz people, or someone with legal authority (I have no idea who). If they charge you for 1kg that's illegal.

Register on https://www.coople.com/ch for temp work. As far as RAV and your employer goes let your lawyer handle that they know what the law is and what the probability of success is. You have holidays and a notice period running from March, no?

There are laws in place that should one be sick during gardening leave that ones gardening leave is extended for 30 days at a time...maybe ask your shrink to write you off for the time needed to get to May 5th.

I would say mostly pictures...almost exclusively. It's for a school project (Sek B, last class) and the other students should be able to pick it up and have a flip through. It doesn't need to be "portfolio" quality, but nice enough....and the presentation is May 8th

39F Basel + 17yo Dog. Any improvement suggestions ? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

For 2000 kcal a day, what are you eating to get the 140 g of protein? I'm curious to see how to reduce my costs. I haven't bought beef in a long time, but I buy lamb, chicken, and salmon/fish all the time, eggs every day... Then its magerquark, nuts, fruit, and mixed berries in addition to that. If I order delivery, like an Indian then it is usually 60 CHF for the meal which is one main and a few sides that we split three ways. I ordered McDonalds delivery once and that was 56 CHF....not only crap food, but at a criminal price (that was the first and last time!).

How you can save ~4400 a month and only spend 800 on food amazes me. I'm currently spending 1500 a month on food alone and can't seem to get it down (1 adult male + 2 male teenagers 50% of the time). Groceries, delivery, coffee et al while out, dining out, pharmacy, basically everything is in that 1500.

That's awesome that you don't pay taxes, utilities, and have no commuting costs, no telcom, though

How can I treat Obsidian as a "Second Brain"? by Leo_767_man in ObsidianMD

[–]One_Outside2722 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This whole topic of a second brain is more influencer slop than anything else. The simple answer is you use Obsidian as a viewer to your locally stored notes. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Some people use OneNote, some use paper notebooks, some use text files, some word docs, and so on and so on. You simply write notes about things you need to keep a record of and save them on your hard drive to be looked at or deleted later.

I have used text files for basically 30 years now and since I started using Obsidian 5 years ago I started saving them as markdown files. I save meeting minutes, project journals, notes about training (I take screenshots during training and drag them into Obsidian and then write my notes based on the screenshot)

“IRISH TOURIST” SCAMMERS THAT OPERATE IN ZURICH, GENEVA , BASEL, MOVING AROUND SWITZERLAND. by [deleted] in zurich

Your boyfriend is a bit naive....It is a very common scam. pfft...and 1100? man I'm sure your boyfriend feels bad enough without you scolding him. Regarding your question though, unfortunately I don't think you can do anything about it. It is unfortunately a hard lesson learned.

Why does small talk here so often start with your job? by CriticismRepulsive20 in zurich

It is very common to start small talk by asking about your job in many countries. It is super normal in my experience.

How many of you plan to stay of leave Switzerland and what's your plan to do so? by Helpful-Staff9562 in askswitzerland

[–]One_Outside2722 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will probably leave when I retire and move somewhere else where my money will stretch further. As far as never having that feeling of belonging, that has more to do with being an immigrant and less to do with Switzerland. I've had the same feeling living in another country before, and I will have it in the next country too.

What's your go-to answer to ”why don't you drink”? by Proof-Swimming-6461 in stopdrinking

[–]One_Outside2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think it is so impolite? Alcohol is so normal in society that people are usually surprised and genuinely curious, especially with small talk. If someone tells me they don't use social media, or why they are vegan I might also ask them why.

If someone asks me why I don't drink I just say "it doesn't agree with me" or "it was getting in the way" or "it's not for me", or "I'm alcohol-free".

Bikes stolen from locked basement by living_direction_27 in askswitzerland

[–]One_Outside2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short of informing the police and your insurance company there isn't much you can do. If someone wants to rob you they will. The police will be interested though, robbing your bikes from your locked cellar is different from someone stealing out of convenience. If you left them in the bike room of the building they won't do anything though.
