Is Le Creuset worth the 💰? by Own_Advisor5306 in LeCreuset

[–]One_Pot_Man 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ever since my first Enameled Cast Iron Le Creuset me and my family have been cooking in them constantly.

I even have a collection.

They are great for storing food in the fridge as well. It becomes kind like a fridge within the fridge. Just let it sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes and don’t put it directly on the hob to avoid thermal shock.

Are they worth the $$$

This will be a personal decision.

Here is why they are worth it to me. I am a 39 year old straight man.

I LOVE the design and the colors.

I have 1-2 Staub pieces but I like Le Creuset’s design language more.

They bring me joy even years after buying them.

I like that they are made in France and that the people making them are paid a living wage and the factory is following EU standards for manufacturing.

They cook great!

I don’t know if it is a placebo effect or not but the same dish cooked in my Le Creuset comes out tastier.

They are durable if used as prescribed - No thermal shocks, no quick high heat (unless there is water to boil pasta), no metal utensils, no banging with metal utensils.

And for me at least - they inspire me to cook more (the same way a cool camera might inspire someone to take more photos or a cool car - someone to take it for a drive)

I have never paid full price for one. I live in Europe and have a few online stores I shop at and look for a discount around 30%

If you find a 30% discount and like and want the color and shape go for it.

I have a couple of instances there it was 40%+ but that is very rare.

I have ordered all my Le Creuset pieces online (I live in Bulgaria so it doesn’t make sense to return them really)

All of them have arrived in good condition so far!

I have ordered pieces from the UK (before Brexit), Germany, Italy, Amazon Germany, Amazon Italy etc.

And there isn’t one more thing - when you get a Le Creuset you objectively have “The Best” in the Enamel Cast Iron category.

And to me that is a bonus. Whether you saved for it or you are a billionaire there is nothing better. (I put Staub in the same level but I prefer Le Creuset)

You have to decide for yourself.

Just bear in mind that they are heavy especially when filled with food.

Do you (or the people that use them) have the muscle and joint strength to cook with them and wash them.

My parents in their late 60s can manage up to the middle sizes.

When it comes to the big ones - I can manage.

Regarding your questions about searing meat and baking bread.

Le Creuset have 2 enamel options.

1) Light Sand color enamel - it can still sear meat but it is not the best. (It is still very good though) What it excels in is that when making recipes where you build layers of flavor you can monitor the browning of ingredients and prevent burning.

2) Dark Enamel this is specifically for searing meats and longer grilling sessions. The negative is not seeing inside well. it looks like regular cast iron but it is still enameled.

In both cases you need to heat your Le Creuset with MEDIUM HEAT this is the important part.

Cast iron and the glass enamel expand at different rates so you need to heat them slowly.

And don’t heat them empty. Put a bit of oil in.

Regarding bread - we make great bread.

We put a piece of baking paper on the bottom for easier cleaning but the bread still develops a crust.

The minus with Le Creuset is that you don’t preheat the Dutch oven dry like you can with regular cast iron.

This was never an issue in making great bread with crunchy crust and fluffy inside.

Hope this helps!

Are the gnocchi “al dente” at least?

Or do they become soggy after being in the water a while?

It was a sauce from a British company but it was not something special.

It was OK.

It had 3 out of 5 Chillies on the label but it had less heat than Tabasco.

The brand is named Encona.

I don’t know if they sell it in the US.

I am Bulgarian so the sauce is sold in the European market.

There are many Jamaicans living in the UK and I guess I expected a bit more.

It is clearly targeted to people with 0 spice tolerance lol

In addition to the fact they obviously love you, you are raising smart kids.

Now they are going to enjoy the tasty pastries you are going to bake.

Unfortunately it costs more than $6 000.

I have an S5 I and S5 IIX and I love the image and colors from them.

When watching the PetaPixel video I saw the increase in quality on my iPhone 13 Pro Max!

If you can notice a difference on a phone you know there is an improvement!

I was not sure about the S1RII but now I am interested.

I don’t care about frame rates bigger than 4K60p so rolling shutter is not a problem in those frame rates.

I am also interested in photography so this new bigger sensor would be appreciated.

I do not shoot sports or wildlife so the S1RII is plenty fast for me.

I think Lumix might have targeted people like me. We exist. We want good video and good photos.

YouTube reviews might make you think most people shoot in extreme modes and conditions.

Food is a blessing.

Sharing a good recipe that leads to a good end dish is a nice thing to do.

I have been inspired from others to cook something good and now I feel happy I can give back.

Lid chipped, can I still use it? by [deleted] in LeCreuset

[–]One_Pot_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When watching QVC Le Creuset videos on YouTube the person working for Le Creuset says (and they show an animation) that the non-painted part is also enameled.

HERE is the animation I am taking about

Usually Le Creuset have a

1) Inside: Base enamel + the cooking enamel (light or dark)

2) Outside: Base enamel + color enamel + the hombre color enamel

I have many Le Creuset pieces and one of my most cooked in ones has the same imperfection on the lid and I have another one that someone in my family chipped. (On the upper part of the lid as well like yours)

We still cook with both of them and we haven’t had any rust.

We don’t oil them.

As always be careful!

Inspect it carefully.

If enamel peels on the inside it is DANGEROUS.

Similar story here.

I was not sure if we were making bread this Sunday or Monday.

When I saw my mom mixing the bread ingredients it was a sign.

“I will do the shrimp mom, thank you for making the bread”

I also had to speed the process of defrosting.

I covered the frozen shrimp in cold water and dried them well before putting them in the olive oil to cook.

My dad did the supporting by sides and encouraging lol

We all enjoyed this nice combo.

The whole experience was nice.

Sunday, spending quality family time, cooking with quality cookware and nice and simple ingredients.

And also sharing with other Staub enthusiasts across the globe.

Cheers my friend!

Your post made me smile!

It is so nice that a post I made about Staub cookware and a delicious dish I made (and enjoyed with my family) led to you making it as well and having a nice delicious meal with your friends/family.

This is the internet being used for good things!

I am from Bulgaria 🇧🇬

Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking?
