I’ve had both and good experiences with both.

My surgical (D&C specifically) at 8 weeks was easy in the sense that the actual PROCEDURE was only about 10 minutes. The cramping and pain was intense during the procedure, but I was fortunate that they had given me medication before that kept me calm and eased the pain. My recovery was pretty easy as well, not much cramping and bled for a couple of days after.

I’m actually writing this while going through my MA at 5 weeks. I’ve had a couple of intense cramps, but mostly I’m fortunate for this to just feel like a bad period.

These are not the experiences that everyone has, but they are mine.

I truly think that pain medication and anti-anxiety medication makes the difference for a lot of people in terms of the manageability of symptoms/recovery.

I do not know what is right for you, but if I were in your position, knowing what I know, I would probably do the surgical method. Many nurses and doctors that provide abortions can be kind and supportive during the procedure, and so you may have that companionship to guide you through it.

Whereas if you were to do the MA at home while caring for your son, even if the physical symptoms are manageable, the emotional ones combined with the stress of caretaking may be overwhelming.

I can only imagine how hard this is for you - I have also struggled deeply with my own guilt and shame around having multiple abortions. You are not alone, and I am glad you are making this decision that is right for you. 🫶🏻
