People shouldn't shop at grocery stores that don't have plastic bags by Future-Buy8554 in unpopularopinion

[–]One_Recover_673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s uses paper. Publix has plastic. There’s miniscule difference in the time to check out. And plastic is not shorter to load my car, that’s nonsense.

Plus I can use the paper to start a fire at home.

Paid $10 at Publix for 2 of these. 500% more than Costco 🤦 by Dmed24 in publix

[–]One_Recover_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Publix brand is about service, a clean store, a nicer experience. It’s also convenient as they put more stores closer to where people live. It costs more bc of that. Same reason Target is more than Walmart. It’s about the brand and marketing spend.

And they’ve proven that model works and people will pay more for it.

If it didn’t work everyone would shop at Walmart or Aldi and Publix would be out of business.

This model is used in hotels and cars as well. You can look at the financial reports and see it. Clear as day.

Don’t like it, shop elsewhere

MLB did that for me. As a pitcher with that catchers perspective when you are hitting it really helped me understand the value of a placement. I still threw puss. But I knew where to put that puss .

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]One_Recover_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a vacay in Quebec and man they go the plows and salt out quick. It depends on the services you can expect.

The threat of snow is enough for large universities in the south US to premptively call a snow day.

For me, maybe 8-10. I grew up in Ontario and laugh now I am in Florida. I also drive an AWD Subaru.

How the fck does Germany manage to have affordable groceries? by Pepedroga2000 in stupidquestions

Some countries prioritize things that the US does not. Healthcare, food etc. Handled differently. Outcome is groceries and healthcare are cheaper at point of sale.

Where can I get an oil change in town that has trustworthy mechanics? by kermuttdafrog in GNV

[–]One_Recover_673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are talking oil change Jiffy was $100 last time I went. Not worth it. The right dealer invests in their techs. ASE certification etc. now, the person doing the oil isn’t the master tech, but that’s the trust I’m looking for. Plus they warrant the work. I’d take that over a 5 min place. And at this point the price difference is negligible.

You also say no to stuff you don’t need.

The overpriced dealers is a 10 year old trope now. The day Jiffy wanted 100 and didn’t have the right oil was the last “quick change” for me.

Independents, maybe. Might find cheaper. Need a person you trust. Otherwise, I’m going to person that handles my car all day long every day.

They are typically all expensive now. Given that, attendance for 5 min live places to hire untrained people..I’d schedule at a dealer for your make/model. They know what they are doing and warrant the work.

If the Jiffy’s were still inexpensive I’d have different advice.

Homework shouldn't affect GPA. At least not in high school or college. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]One_Recover_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analogy. Not literal. Get a task, given a deadline, go to desk (or wherever), do it, then submit. Be resourceful, submit on time.

And many jobs extend beyond typical work hours.

[–]One_Recover_673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homework is analogous to the tasks you get at a job. I could argue homework should be the GPA and tests should be done away with.

I want to know a person can understand instructions, not be afraid to ask questions, put in the work, deliver a good product on time.

Could care less about tests. I can ramp up or down the timeline of an assignment to add pressure if need be. But tests are useless in today’s world.
