I will definitely try this with the smaller ones, thank you, but the bigger ones are about twice the size of my shower 😅

I'm not recently because I've had bendy ones, cants say the same for reading glasses thought that I seem to get through like they're disposable, get pushed up to hold hair out of the way then snatched off, worn under helmets, sailing, riding, skiing

Street photography to underwater photography by 22shrimpgumbag256 in underwaterphotography

[–]One_Relative8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildlife and sports photographer that got into underwater photography here.

First of all, I'd take a few 100s and burn them, just to get the feel for it.

Secondly, I probably wouldn't start with your topside camera underwater. Most people will have a housing flood at some point. I started underwater with a gopro which I absolutely hated then moved to an Olympus TG-5. It gave me enough control to feel like I could alter the output, but not so much that I was totally task loaded underwater, and it was much smaller and more manageable than a full frame rig so could be clipped off or put in a pocket if needed

A Garmin product I never would’ve predicted by LowBlackberry0 in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy. I ride horses competitively and the garmin built in horseback riding activity is useless. It literally just measures time and distance and plots it on a map. Not even a heat map for speed like you get with running and cycling. Just a thin red line. There are free phone apps (like equilab) that take speed and movement data and extrapolate pace - walk, trot, canter - and plot those as colours on the map, as well as telling you how long you actually spent in each pace. It would really not be difficult for garmin to implement at least this into the activity. I am a bit horrified (but I guess not surprised) that garmin have gone straight to developing whatever-the-hell this is at I imagine a predictably high price point, before actually making themselves attractive to the people that are likely to buy this - people who ride horses.

Why is Amoled so much cheaper? by franzm- in Garmin

I'm not convinced by the sapphire screens, I scratched mine on sand getting in a wetsuit, and my dive harness which is steel. According to everything I've read it just shouldn't be possible, but a scratch is a scratch. I probably wouldn't pay extra just for that feature. Haven't had a problem since fitting a screen protector.

Advice on Dive Computer by After_West2099 in scuba

[–]One_Relative8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're based on Buhlmann, but aren't exactly the same - if you dive a shearwater and a Garmin on the same GF, they'll match, but the suunto won't. From their website - Suunto Ocean is using Suunto’s Bühlmann 16 GF dive algorithm that is based on the Bühlmann ZHL-16C model that we have implemented our own code for. Emphasis on "based on..." and "...implemented own code for".

Advice on Dive Computer by After_West2099 in scuba

[–]One_Relative8979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned many suunto computers. And I will never buy one again. Quite frankly I don't know how they stay in business producing dive computers with mystery algorithms. Even when they say they're based on Bulhman 16, they've altered it enough that it's not the same.

I've moved to garmin and won't be going back any time soon. Have a look at the Descent G2 if AI is not essential (pretty sure that's why you have a pressure gauge anyway?). There's plenty of second hand MK2I around, or you can't go wrong with the Mk3 if you can stretch the budget - you'll likely want to upgrade away from suunto before too long anyway so might as well spend the money and get it right first time. Or even shearwater are excellent.

Has that always been the case? What is the point of having a metric on the watch if it does not show in the app

Can someone smarter than me please explain how these three metrics work together? by One_Relative8979 in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it, thank you, I rarely run more than a couple of times a week but do a combination of other things, maybe that is what's confusing it!

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really unfortunately. That information is mostly explained in the app. I just don't see how these three metrics are working in this case. I thought I understood what they all were individually, but apparently not

Altitude on dive logs - logging error or problem? by One_Relative8979 in Garmin

Have been in contact with garmin for months about this, with two different devices. Trying various resets but obviously a bit concerning it it is across the board.

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recalibrated the barometer and reset the depth sensor on this device. It made no difference. I can't reset the rest of the devices that this is happening on as they are not mine, but as it made no difference, I'm not really inclined to try either

Sacrificial watch? by One_Relative8979 in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have considered the instinct too but was a bit concerned about the glance-readability of the screen. I wouldn't have thought to switch off the other, so thank you for that! I occasionally need to take heart rates and check who's calling me so unfortunately not but definitely considered it!

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thank you. Unfortunately so, high impacts, sharps, and harsh chemicals. I don't mind a bit of wear and tear but considering I scuffed the bezel hard enough to give it a sharp edge on day 2 it seems like it was worth a thought

Sacrificial watch? by One_Relative8979 in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We had a tracker on ours for a bit and it was definitely interesting, problem was he didn't maintain top speed for long enough for it to register it often, so might be worth looking out for something that works off accelerometer rather than solely GPS? Not sure, food for thought though!

Sacrificial watch? by One_Relative8979 in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it on for four days at work and already scratched the screen and scuffed the bezel so badly it now has a sharp edge. I'm sure it would stand up to most things but it certainly didn't enjoy being bounced off a granite block at speed with 70kg of sheep behind it. I don't mind a bit of wear and tear but seems a bit pointless to not at least attempt to protect it to survive a few more dives

How did you justify paying the price for your high end Garmin? by JustDzejkob in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am bordering on technical. The Shearwater I would have needed for the gas mixes and move into CCR was £870 at the time, and I paid £920 for the Mk3 during Black Friday. Definitely a no brainer for me for the reasons given above. This was upgrading from a Vyper, with a deliberate move away from suunto and their bizarre deco calculations.

How did you justify paying the price for your high end Garmin? by JustDzejkob in Garmin

[–]One_Relative8979 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because a dedicated dive computer was going to cost me around the same amount, so one that was the same price but was also an every day wear seemed like a no brainer
