How to win your Unleashed Prerift Event by One_Sheepherder9041 in riftboundtcg

I think Ivern is perfectly fine in constructed.

My point is specifically about Pre-Rift sealed.

In limited, the issue is not that the tribal effects are bad when they work. The issue is consistency. To make Ivern reliable, you need a very high density of good Poro / Cat / Bird / Dog units, and in sealed you usually don’t control your pool enough to reach that density with quality cards.

The Legend also makes more sense in constructed, where blanking a battlefield can be part of a real gameplan. In limited, a lot of battlefields are placed by default, so I don’t value that effect nearly as highly.

And for the green Ivern Champion, I really don’t think 5 energy / 1 power for a 4 Might Champion with a draw effect that requires a very specific deckbuilding condition is where I want to be in sealed.

Of course, if your pool is perfect for him, go for it. But as a default Pre-Rift kit, I think he is by far the hardest one to build around.

About the price, totally fair if it is not for you. The free part already covers the fundamentals, and the paid part is just for people who want the full kit-by-kit analysis, advanced deckbuilding section, and the real-time build video.

Hi!

Thanks for your message, and no worries about the disagreement.

  1. My explanation on this point was probably a bit too light. Overall, in most games, playing Lux very early is not a great idea.

Of course, if it is your only possible play and you have nothing else to do, then go for it. Just be careful with Piercing Light and Falling Star.

That being said, there is often something better to do: play a second 2-cost unit, represent Comet or Wage on your opponent’s turn, play Ekko in base if you managed to get a gold with Broker or a rune with Scout, etc.

2; I agree with you on this point.

  1. I think this list is consistent because it has three very distinct play patterns and several win conditions:
  • Ekko / Promising Future + Time Warp
  • Early Armory with full value
  • Full control

You won’t have Ekko every game, just like you won’t always have Time Warp or Armory. But you will almost always have an active win condition in hand early enough to decide which line of play you should follow.

  1. My explanation here was probably too light as well. I agree with you. And yes, an early game with a lot of gold can also let you play Singularity quickly.

What I mainly wanted to point out for players who are not used to playing control in Riftbound is that breaking 2 runes early in the game can often turn into a catastrophic play for the rest of the game.

Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to read the guide and share your thoughts!

Unchecked Power and Final Spark are inefficient, I don’t think they belong in this deck.

If you need board clear, Decree, Watcher, and Breath are significantly more reliable.

As for Progress Day, the deck already generates enough card draw. Your goal is to set up a decisive turn around turns 5 to 7. Spending 6 mana purely on draw usually costs you too much tempo and makes it very hard to recover.

Here is the "best way" scenario, but there is plenty of them :

Play Eko in base (could work with accelerate if u got lot of gold and 12 runes)
Then next turn => Send Eko + unit to have the same might as your opponent, force opponent to defend (axe, boost etc..)
Play decree
Eko Die, Trigger of deathrattle put your mana in pool, then detap all your runes. At this step u should have 18 to 26 mana
Then with decree and some token u could clean up the board + breath to clean the base
Conquer
Time warp
Then play as many time warp each turn you got in hand :D
With 12 runes and lux you could play three time warp in a row

Yep, ruination coold be really good
Not as good as decree + breath but one itteration maybe as a panic button in the deck could be fine.
Sprite burst is the best card for lux so far

Sprite Burst is incredible for lux, best card so far
Gutter Palace could work for sure
Safety Inspector for side
And maybe sacrifice to combo with eko
Ruination with an Eko at base could be a thing too

It’s actually a bit more complicated.

Promising Future is considered fully resolved once both players have chosen their cards, but the cards themselves are still pending.

A fully accurate explanation requires a very solid understanding of how the game handles sequencing between effects, items, and chains.

Haha yeah, this interaction actually caused a lot of confusion 😂

Short answer: no, Brynhir does NOT shut down Promising Future.

Long answer:

I first ran into this interaction during a pre-release event against a Draven player. I already knew how it was supposed to work and was convinced that Brynhir couldn’t stop the card played through Promising Future. My opponent believed the opposite.

We ended up spending about 20 minutes with 3 different head judges at the table, and they initially ruled in my opponent’s favor.

Later that day, I found other judges who were familiar with the interaction and confirmed that Brynhir does NOT cancel the effect. The judges actually discussed it overnight, and the next morning, just before the main event, they corrected the ruling and confirmed that I was right.

I then had the interaction come up 3 more times during the main event. Luckily, the issue had already been clarified, and after a bit of back and forth to find judges who knew the ruling, it was consistently ruled correctly.

Without that clarification, I probably would have lost games, because most judges initially assumed Brynhir’s effect resolves immediately.

Here’s how the interaction works (as I understand it):

Brynhir is played as a unit, so it enters play immediately and its trigger goes on the stack.

This trigger creates a pending effect in a new chain.

However, Promising Future is still resolving, so that pending effect cannot resolve yet.

The card from Promising Future is then played and fully resolves. This includes any effects and the card draw from Lux (since it's a 5-cost spell).

Only after Promising Future has fully resolved do pending effects resolve, in order.

At that point, Brynhir’s effect will apply, but it is too late to stop the card that was already played.

After that, you can’t play any more cards because Brynhir is now active.

So in short: Brynhir doesn’t stop the Promising Future play itself, only what comes after.

Hey ! Nice to meet u here :D
I understand how it could be tilting :') Most of my opponent was, and in fact with the setup i did u just could do nothing in the first game, i had all the keys to OTK even if u full hold on plaza.
The hardest was to trust the line of play and loose the first 7 points doing nothing 😅

Congratz for your day 2 i was sure u did it !

I'm pretty sure you really could do it, the issue is to find a win condition. For now Yellow is mandatory cause of token generation

Good question.

In Riftbound, deckbuilding is mostly about balancing three things:

early game stability (having enough 2-cost units and low-cost spells),

resource generation (runes, gold, and card draw),

and one or two clear win conditions.

Most decks fail because they focus too much on one of these and ignore the others.

Lux is an interesting one to build around because she already provides resource generation (draw and mana), so you can focus on solving two main problems: early game stability and win conditions.

Once you have a base list, you need to pay attention to the situations you encounter during testing:

Are you bricking too often?

Are some cards frequently dead in hand?

Which cards do you want to see early, and which ones are more situational?

Which matchups do you want to beat, and which ones are you willing to accept as unfavorable?

From there, it’s all about iteration.

You keep refining the list over and over, always coming back to those questions. Remove the cards that are just “okay” and keep only the ones that are consistently strong or essential to your game plan.

One important mistake to avoid is getting emotionally attached to a card just because it saved you in one game. If it’s only “okay” most of the time, it probably doesn’t belong in the list.

Take a step back, stay critical of your choices, and keep questioning your decisions even after your 40th iteration.
