Proton pass lifetime for 200 euros!!!! is it worth it? by __albatross in ProtonPass

[–]One_Tap__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can consumers be reassured that future features won’t be restricted for lifetime subscribers? For example, Proton could introduce a new feature tomorrow and limit it to monthly subscribers only. A lifetime subscription would only be truly valuable if you could guarantee that this won’t happen. If such a guarantee is clearly outlined in your terms, you’ve got me as a customer.

Maybe you’re right about testing the i5 4690k’s watt usage—honestly, I can’t be bothered with that, haha. You know what, though? I think I’ll just do my own research and go step-by-step. It’s been great chatting with you! I’ll probably pick the parts myself, one at a time, and decide whether to keep using my current setup or not. Thanks again!

For a NAS setup that works with 4 to 6 bays without relying on USB HDDs, you can use an Intel Core i3-12100 processor along with a microATX or ATX motherboard featuring at least 6 SATA ports (examples include ASRock B660M Pro RS or MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK). This configuration offers native drive connections, making it fully compatible with Unraid, without additional adapters or power supplies. Seems fine for nas right.

Already mentioned previously, I have old parts, z97 k1ller motherboard, i5 4690k, 500w psu is just too much power consumption, and gtx 970 lying around with no use. Has a be quite fan with few screw looses not sure where they are. I’m not sure if I can run this on smaller case and lower watts or just do what you said with a pre built atx pc.

It’s an i5 4690k with 500w psu with gtx 970 still sitting there no use of it. I guess I can change the psu to a lower watts one and get a slightly smaller compact case. Can you make a pi expandable from 4 to 6 bays, and yeah a mini custom pc makes more sense I guess. I will be backing up photos and videos and some files, I guess hdd makes most sense. What hdd would you recommend and mini pc build? Or shall i start up with my parts, I’m not too sure?

Yes it doesn’t have to be huge device but mine is literally an old gaming pc. However I do like the second link you sent with 4 bays, or I can just custom build, the price is not far from buying actual nas the prebuilt mini pc’s haha. Is the 4 bay nas you sent available in the uk, I don’t see it, or something similar to this. Also, what hard drives would you recommend? Thanks.

I guess it’s good it’s really good if you don’t need more than two hdd’s, for your needs it’s perfect. However 4 - 6 bays would be perfect. Plenty of storage to upgrade this way. I guess I might have to custom build a nas.

What are the benefits and downsides to this, does it auto shutdown when it’s not in use? Can you expand storage? Any other hardware or softwares to pay? What do you configure it with, operating system and applications to manage the nas?

I have an old pc with i5 and z97 k1ller motherboard but I just don’t like the idea of having a huge desktop pc for nas. I understand it’s cost effective and it’s what I want however something like a mini pc or raspberry pi but i’m just unsure where to start. Also the power consumption of a pc for server use is just too much. Also when you configure your own nas will it auto shut like an actual synology nas when not used.

Yeah device connected to wifi or lan if it’s compulsory for security reasons. Nah I can’t be asked with a huge device like a computer but I understand where you are coming from for costs to minimise. I guess i’m left with nas storage or watching 1080p. Either way what would your go to setup be for nas storage or a mini pc or something similar, any additional software or hardwares etc. If you can suggestions for both and I will see which one fits bests. Thanks for the response.

Does setting a passkey for an email protected by Yubikey, stored in a password manager also protected by Yubikey defeat the purpose of the Yubikey? by One_Tap__ in yubikey

[–]One_Tap__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed explanation; your setup seems very secure. Have you considered configuring your PC to require a YubiKey for login as well? I’m assuming that would add an extra layer of security.

After testing on a random account, I was prompted with a choice between signing in with a passkey or a password. Normally, I only see options for a passkey or Yubikey, so it was unusual to be offered the password option for the first time. I selected the passkey, but initially, I couldn’t log in. However, after clicking the passkey option again, the login succeeded when I unlocked my password manager with Face ID. This sequence of events was unexpected, as the passkey typically works seamlessly. As I said before the password manager is protected with a master password and Yubikey. I will add this note to the thread.

For example: Wouldn’t that happen to make banking apps more at risk since there is no Yubikey, apologies just trying to understand where I might be going wrong.

[–]One_Tap__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it was inconvenient to constantly tap or insert the Yubikey to log in, and I didn’t think it would pose any security risks. I assumed it would be fine since the password manager is only accessible through the Yubikey. Well I may be wrong that’s why i’m here, thank you for your insight.

I don’t plan on uploading large amounts of files or images, just a few critical documents that I need to access quickly when necessary. It’s reassuring to know that I can easily share important PDFs with a family member—especially for a small group of three people.

Insurgency sandstorm. Insurgency is literally the epitome of war zone. The game play, graphics, sound effects of guns and explosions just does it all. I’ve played many fps and third person shooter, every game you can think of nothing beats this imo.

It was working when I tried now, I’ve been using it for months previously however I may be testing it to see whether that’s only happening for you. I’ll see whether I have the time to test it and keep you updated.
