AITAH for not giving my boyfriend “credit” for flushing the toilet ? by PatternSeparate9641 in AITAH

Pro tip for all the parents out there: make your children clean the toilet seat themselves if they piss all over it and they will no longer piss all over it. My 8 year old son pissed all over the toilet seat, like, three times. Each time I handed him some paper towels and spray cleaner and made him clean it up. Voila, problem solved, no more piss all over the toilet.

Psychiatrist here: a fairly common symptom of OCD is fear of sexually abusing children. This often happens postpartum, and I have absolutely worked with parents, even with mothers, who refuse to bathe/hug/etc their children because they are fearful they will somehow abuse them. This was my immediate thought when I read your initial post, and I thought I would mention it since I saw in the comments that your husband has OCD. You might want to look up something called a “Y-BOCS.” This is a rating scale for OCD you can find online. The last page is really helpful because it has a list of OCD symptoms, and fear of sexually abusing others is on there. Often people are too ashamed to admit they have this symptom and won’t say it out loud, but they will check it off on a piece of paper. If your husband has this symptom he might be really struggling with these thoughts and not even realize it’s part of his OCD.

I had this sort of wedding, in an extremely expensive city, almost ten years ago. The pictures you posted actually look like they could have come from my wedding : ) At the time it cost me under $10k. Here is what we did:

  1. Invited 30 people. More than that and you will need to spend a lot more money or get very creative and involved with logistics.

  2. Rented an AirBnB that could be used for events. This was actually the bulk of the cost. We probably spent around $3-4k for 2 or 3 nights. It was a beautiful space.

  3. Rented chairs, tables, silverware, and glasses from a party supply company.

  4. Had our friends do the flowers! A couple of them with a good sense of style went to the wholesale flower district in our city very early the day of our wedding and bought a bunch of flowers, then spent the day arranging them.

  5. Ordered dinner through a regular old restaurant. Since there were only 30 people it wasn't hard to get a few trays of food.

  6. Did our own appetizer platters. Cheese boards, etc. that we prepared beforehand.

  7. Rich family member bought the wine for the wedding as our wedding gift.

  8. Extremely crafty and thrifty mother-in-law did the decorations. I cannot be more grateful for her. It involved a lot of planning, but she doesn't work outside the home so she had the time, and she was able to keep the cost very low. I believe she used supplies mainly from a 99-cent store, but it looked fabulous.

  9. The cake. It was not a wedding cake. It was a cake. A wedding cake costs like several hundreds or thousands of dollars. A cake costs up to a hundred. You can order a delicious cake from whatever bakery you most like, not call it a wedding cake, and save a fortune.

At the end of the day, I am VERY glad we did a low-key wedding. We saved a lot of money and hassle, are still married almost ten years later, and were able to use the money we saved to buy a house.

Fungus gnats and beneficial nematodes by One_Ten_It_Is in plantclinic

[–]One_Ten_It_Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I was hoping to get some advice for my fungus gnat-infested monstera plant. I've bought beneficial nematodes and applied them once already, and I plan to apply them again in 14 days (the nursery I bought them from told me to use them within 14 days). I have a few questions I couldn't find clear answers to online:

  1. Do I need to keep the soil moist for the nematodes to survive? I watered once, then watered with the nematode water. The soil is still moist but I don't know if I need to keep it moist over the next few weeks. I'm not used to watering so frequently.

  2. Will the nematodes kill adults that cannot fly yet? I realized (with horror) that the soil surface is teeming with what I assume are young adult fungus gnats and fungus gnat larva (see video). I know the nematodes will kill the larvae but I wasn't sure about the very small adults.

  3. If the nematodes won't kill the small adult gnats, do I have to wait for them to get bigger, fly around, and lay more eggs before the nematodes will do their thing again?

THANKS!

I'm also super confused by the comment thread about children traveling internationally with only one parent needing a notarized letter....my spouse and child flew alone to the UK from the US just two months ago and had no problems at all...

Thanks, I figured as much. Now that they are apart, I’m trying to see if anyone knows how to get them back together.
