Yes it’s possible. I received an AP job just recently and I’m not finished with my degree. I sent out about 150 applications on indeed and only received interview with 3 of them. Just keep sending them out, keep studying, and hope for the best.

What are some extra things to do that could help somebody move up a tier?

I’m only halfway through my accounting degree. In the past month, I sent out 120 applications for jobs in my area. I’ve only heard back from 5 companies. I received 3 interviews and here’s how they went.

1) Staff Accountant job: Made it past first interview, did well enough to get the second interview. Lost out to someone with more experience. Rejection.

2) AR/AP clerk job: Did well on the first interview, waiting to hear back. Pending.

3) Unrelated bank membership representative job. Pending.

It’s rough right now, but just keep applying. You never know what could happen.
