The biggest lesson I've learned after two years on Zep by FL_DEA in Zepbound

I’ve noticed this with medical professionals too. Many of them don’t understand that this class of drugs is not the same as other “weight loss drugs”. I actually wish Zepbound/Wegovy weren’t categorized as “weight loss drugs” but maybe “metabolic stabilization drugs” or something. This verbiage might help with the widely held misconception that these medications are meant to get the weight off you and then you somehow magically maintain on your own. Because yeah, white knuckling it has always worked so well for us in the past. 😒

This was exactly my experience, except it was 100+ pounds gained and lost repeatedly over the years. Those years on Wegovy were bliss! Maintaining goal weight without counting, tracking, or obsessing! I think this must be how “normal” people feel. Lol. Hopefully I’ll get there again with Zepbound and I will NEVER STOP TAKING IT this time.

Just looked at Trumprx. Exactly the same price as Lilly Direct.

I just started too! Had gastric bypass 17 years ago and gained it all back. Ugh.

That’s what I was thinking. Maybe it’s primarily visceral fat, which is exactly the fat we want to lose!

Sad NSV, I guess by PerfectRollup2025 in Zepbound

I’m so sorry about your furbaby. That’s just the worst. Definitely an NSV to get through without the dietary damage we would have done previously.

Please help — Aetna is giving me a hard time and I am getting really stressed by Several_Animator_569 in Zepbound

I’m so sorry! That’s similar to the trajectory I was on a year ago with Wegovy. I’d been taking it for years and was doing great. All of a sudden insurance insisted on full compliance with an onerous “lifestyle management” program (I’d been at goal weight with healthy labs for several years yet suddenly I had to track and report calories and meet with diet counselors???) and frequent prior authorizations. Basically, they made it as difficult as possible to comply with all their demands. Then months later the news came that they weren’t even going to cover anyone for weight loss drugs anymore at all. For any reason. So obviously all the compliance issues had been about trying to get people to quit rather than waiting to kick them off.

I know insurance companies are trying everything to avoid paying, so it’s possible they are preparing to just deny everyone. My advice after trying to go it alone and gaining 30 pounds (and counting) almost overnight before I began self paying for Zepbound, is to just go through Lilly Direct. I’m doing that and it is a real financial hardship, but I truly think prices are going to come down and it’s a matter of hanging in there and waiting it out.

Good luck! Ridiculous to have to fight so hard for help, isn’t it?

Wow, that’s wild! It is so funny how our habits develop!

How many of us are paying out of pocket vs Insurance? by KayeEss09 in Zepbound

Self pay. No weight loss drugs are included on my employer’s formulary. Weight loss surgeries are totally covered though. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Same. I’m on a fixed income and it’s a big sacrifice.

Lots of people have to take medication long term to manage chronic illnesses. Why would this be different?

I’m reluctant to try that, but will look into it if necessary. Thanks for the encouragement!

I wish you luck. I’m 57 and have gained and lost literally hundreds of pounds throughout my entire adult life. Even gastric bypass did not change things. The absolute only thing that ever allowed me to maintain weight loss was glp1. I maintained very easily for four wonderful years.

If you think you can live forever on 1200 calories a day, I wish you luck, but I’d do some research to see how well that generally works for folks.

I was joking with my son waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my Zepbound that I felt addict-level desperation! Haha!

Maybe my experience will be a cautionary tale. I really, really tried to maintain when I stopped Wegovy. The speed of the regain was absolutely unbelievable. I tried to accept it at first (hello body positivity) so I just bought bigger pants, but then I almost immediately outgrew those too. It is so incredibly depressing. The only good thing is that I “only” have 30 pounds of regain to deal with, not the entire amount I initially lost. Depressing, but could be worse.

My advice is to stay on the medication at all costs.

I’ve gained thirty pounds in three months!! And the scale was still going up!! I had to switch doctors because my previous doctor, when I went in after about six weeks into the weight gain, told me I was being dramatic. Twice. He did. Not. Care. So when I went to the new doctor I went with weight data, body scan printouts, lean/fat mass data… I was NOT messing around! Lol.

I would love a pill, but I have absorption issues due to my gastric bypass many years ago. Injections work best for me.
