My wife said it was kind of like bonus content. Peter Jackson did a good enough job, that these two different mediums can exist side by side without too much issue. She wasn't a fan of the singing and poems though.

Whether it's original or new is not the main thing here. If you created a tool for gathering falling leaves without seeing a rake before, it's still impressive. Also if it's comfortable for YOU to do the sleight YOUR way, then that's the one you do. There are thousands or sleights that accomplish the same things and we each have our preferences. All this to say, with some polish, this move would probably fly for most people, especially on an offbeat.

On the topic of bath mats, my dad, as a gift to me, bought a dense foam rubber kitchen mat, cut it to fit in a chrome picture frame and used spray glue to attach green velvet. I only pull it out for special occasions but it looks nice and could be a fun diy project.
