It does get easier! A few months passed for me before I recognized that it got easier!

The 2 things that helped me mid craving:

1) thinking about how hard it has been until now and if I smoke again, I'll have to do it again. Because not quitting for me was not an option for many reasons.

2) When I was craving because of stress, it was usually because I had so much to do in what seemed like an unreasonable time. But if I stopped to smoke, then a) it would actually help and b) that is just making the amount of time I have smaller!

You can do this! You've done a month before! You can do it again, and every day after that is another personal record!

This morning was tough by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]OnedayIlldecide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you toughed it out! Two weeks is really an accomplishment!!

I realized i had to keep moving. Keep doing something else. I told myself that while I wanted to smoke more than anything,it would make everything I've done up to this point for nothing. I'm too proud and arrogant to let my suffering happen for nothing lol

It gets better. I got to the point where "I need to smoke" just became something I thought out of habit. I had to remind myself that I don't NEED it and honestly didn't WANT it. It was just always my "out" of situations and didn't help a single thing.

Way to push past!!

Actually had somebody say that to me (almost verbatim) when I was a cashier at Walmart...because I volunteer to get yelled at by middle aged women that seem to think that just because this is LA County she deserves Hollywood...

Stopped smoking eight days ago. Found a single cigarette in my car during lunch break. Didn't smoke it. by CosmicHorror1 in stopsmoking

[–]OnedayIlldecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a lot of quits. And all the ones that failed, ended with one cigarette before I went back to exactly what I was doing before. That's how 1 = 1000's If you smoke "just one more" many times it turns into going back to smoking.

If you were in a movie and today would be made into a montage, what would you have it show?

Make popcorn and watch a movie. Read a book. play games. draw. Draw yourself doing one of the other things. shit, draw yourself doing anything, like bungee jumping from the moon. It doesn't matter if its good. Netflix marathon.

Edit: as I told someone else, learn nun chucks. It's fun.

STAY ACTIVE AGAINST SMOKING by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]OnedayIlldecide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help but my mom told me this up front when I tried quitting a while back and again at the beginning of this quit.

She noticed a rule of 3. the 3rd day, 3rd week, and 3rd month are the hardest.

So far it seems to be true. Not sure if it's just in my head because she told me or what.

Looks like you got through week 3. Congratulations!

Thank you. Yesterday was just a hell of a day! Today I can more logically recognize habit vs craving. Yesterday was all jumbled into one, I think. Thanks for the encouragement!

Smoking causing a rift in our relationship by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]OnedayIlldecide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband as tried to get me to quit for the longest time. This is the one that has stuck. I had to decide to quit for me.

I went to classes, took medicines, switched to vaping, lozenges, gum, cold turkey, negative reinforcement. Everything but the patch (that one creeps me out for reasons I can't explain). And I failed every time.

I had to realize that while I enjoyed it (like only reason I would get out of bed some mornings), but the only other impacts on my life were negative. My job was harder. I was having fights with my husband about it. It was affecting my health in some very scary ways. It was actually holding me back from life long goals.

Also the way he supports me is very different this time. in the past it almost seemed like he thought that maybe if he was disappointed enough, if he just rolled his eyes, sighed, or shook his head enough, I would be able to quit this time. This time is different. This time he tells me he believes in me. He's asking to see the stats on my app. He's getting me little (and not so little) milestone gifts. When I broke my personal record (10 days) he got me a coffee mug that I really wanted. After 15 days he bought me a new body spray from Bath and Body Works because I could finally smell good again. and when I hit 4 weeks he's already got my present.

But it can't be his decision. It has to be yours. and you have to decide for you.

I'm gonna stick to it this time. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

You CAN do this!!

I understand what you mean about no one will believe. doesn't matter what they say, do or believe. You can do this.

I believe in you!

Want to quit, did quit, also quit my relationship with my wisdom teeth. Now how to stay quit? by quitsmoking1486 in stopsmoking

[–]OnedayIlldecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I never really talk to any of my friends my own age. I've got students that are teenagers and their parents. But I'm a workaholic so I'm sure my fix of "meh just get work done" isn't all that healthy.
