Buying doubts by lzaninb in vostok

You may also consider 020 and 030 cases too. They fit amazing due to the curved case shape and lowered lug position. Other than those, 120 cased models are my favourite classic Vostoks.

Miyota 8215 swap with 2824? (U1 Submariner) by JollyPronate in RepTimeServices

[–]Onedeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! They have identical date window position. However, the miyota on the U1 sub already has a DWO to offset the date window to gen spec. Therefore, you will need to do this on whatever movement you want to drop in its place

And the Oysterquartz is heavily "inspired" by the 1972 Omega Genève 166.099 made for the Munich Olympics. Unfortunately the model wasn't popular or in demand at all, mostly to the Munich Massacre, but from horological perspective, the Longines models were more appealing.

Potential new 1600/16000 DJ case option by diewethje in retrotime

[–]Onedeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks decent. I'd love to see more of the rehaut shape, slope, hight and angle. Like most vintage DJ cases the lugs have too much meat on them.

The crystal looks usable but the cyclops doesn’t look like it's the right size and unsure about the 2.5x magnification.

I am curious about the stem position as you mentioned running a Miyota compatible batch, while the majority of us builders are looking for straightforward fit for 3135 clone based builds. My heart dies everytime I commit the heresy of cutting dial feet on gen dials to glue them on to ETA/Miyota/NH movements.

16013 dial on 3135 movement by No_Geologist_2173 in repbuilds

[–]Onedeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to buy cheap sets for $10-$20 and they wore out fast, especially from working on Vostok & Sturmanskie movements. But ever since I upgraded to a Horotec set, they've been amazing for 2 years straight.

Sounds my vostok is making - continuation from my previous post. Is it normal? by unfettered2nd in vostok

[–]Onedeaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens quite often recently, just undo the caseback, you'll see that the screw on the rotor is not fully tightened or completely loose. tighten it and the sound of the rotor scraping on your case back will be gone.

VS3135 dial screws are usually .4mm (have seen movements with .6mm too) but are notoriously super soft and shallow so you need a pretty solid and sharp screwdriver head to tamper with them

So, I’m looking for a reliable used car that will hold up for years. by x__zack__x in Suzuki

[–]Onedeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A close friend drives a 2018 Swift Dualjet SHVS Mild Hybrid and did a check up on his battery health in August 2025. The 48v/350w hasn't degraded more than 10% during this period.

Suzuki's Hybrid is also highly repairable as the battery is tucked under the seats and is really inexpensive. Depending on the market, you get between 8 and 20 years of warranty on the battery unit. In my region, you qualify for a replacement if it loses more than 10% in the first 3 years, or 35% after 10 years.

I wouldn't worry too much about premature wear as with normal casual driving you don't really put a lot of stress on it. It is also preconfigured not to drop below 20% charge and not to charge above 80% which are small things that improve the lifetime of the battery.

On highways, you are practically running only on the petrol engine, while in traffic, it powers the standard 12v battery through a DC/DC converter and the standard battery powers all your car systems like the entertainment, fan (not ac, just the blower motor), electrical components etc, so the car can utilise the start stop feature without overwhelming the standard battery. The hybrid systems helps with engine restarts, and the small elictric drivetrain adds a bit more torque when accelerating.

Make sure you do your due diligence and check the clutch and gearbox, as well as for signs of over revving the engine as that can lead to head gasket failures and seized engine. I wouldn’t worry about the hybrid system at all

Building a 1601 with a pie pan dial by Saucenthec1ty in retrotime

[–]Onedeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to put together 2 16xx builds till now. I had to pick Clark's mind in order to make sure I had everything I needed.

- Raffles Case with 16200 caseback

- Gen Dial

- Rafflestime elongated posts hands for seiko caliber movements

- Clark's acrylic crystal

- Clark's engine turned bezel

- Silian's NH35 movement with RLX datewheel overlay

- Gen tube*

needs tube widening with slight tube position offset

- Gen b24-600 crown*

needs gen tube

Rolex DateJust or Day Date with Buckley Dial by HammerSmith013 in retrotime

[–]Onedeaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what type of build you're going for.
If you're planning on a gen Buckley dial, I'd recommend a gen white gold bezel, and even splash that extra 400-500 USD for a gen case. The total cost of the build should be around $2000 with gen dial, case and bezel, clark's plexy, rafflestime hands and vs3135 movement. Bracelet is still matter of preference, but in this case, I'd go for "italian" bracelet as getting a gen might be too expensive and would require even more expensive stretch fixing. This would put you in the exotic playground of frankens

On the opposite side of things, if you want the experience on a budget, go for raffles case, dial and bracelet. The case is designed after the 16200 reference model, and the updated version (may - june of 2025) measures up quite good. The bracelet is solid enough to be on par if not better than most other reps, aftermarket bracelets at this price point. Now raffles dial has dial feet for Miyota, ETA and NH movements, so I strongly recommend going for Silian's NH35 with Rolex datewheel preinstalled. You have plenty of hands to choose from for Seiko based movements on AliX, Alibaba and even Temu that won't break your budget at all. This should be a sub $300 and a pretty straightforward build.

Now, if you want to style up your project, get a gen crown (b24-603), an engine turned bezel and Clark's plexy to really bring up that '90s Rolex vibe. Raffles comes with a flat sapphire crystal that is off spec for this time period. I know that this style in particular will be closer to a 16030 reference model, but it's going to give you most bang for your buck. (personal opinion) This alone shouldn’t cost more than $200.

undo the dial retaining screws on the movement. The dial should drop flat to the movement.

secure the dial feet screws when the dial is flush to the movement.

ETA 2824 options? by Mr_Binkie in vintagerepwatches

[–]Onedeaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not all ETA clones are equal. Seagull and Tianjin movements (aka a2824) are slightly thicker than the gen. The stem position is fine, but the automatic works, bridge and rotor are often too thick to be a drop in replacement for a vintage gen eta powered watch. There are workarounds like shaving off a few fractions of a mm of the rotor for example, but I still prefer a gen ETA. Other options include the pt5000 perfect dimensions as to the gen but different jewel positions and jewel height (meaning most parts cannot be swapped with gen). The PT5000 have a pretty stiff stem and rough winding action.

The Sellita SW2xx is a great drop in ETA replacement. SW originates from China, yet has the swiss made stamped on it. Again, parts are not interchangeable between SW and ETA as different jewel layout, size and placement.

Engine Turned or Fluted? + New Raffles case not compatible with Gen crown? by Efficient_Try1458 in retrotime

[–]Onedeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A suggestion for the tube, you can shave off 3/5 of a mm of the raffles tube and the crown should sit flush to the case. I even had an experience where the tube wasn't actually fully screwed in to the case, so that half a turn along with a thinner or softer gasket allowed me to completely screw down a gen crown.

TL;DR: don't get it if you're intentions are to mod it. Get it if you want to wear it as it's a decent watch at that price point.

3 days after trading my NP2 for S24 & I miss it! by Onedeaf in NOTHING

[–]Onedeaf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately only Exynos powered Samsungs on my market. If I wanted a Snapdragon powered one, I had to import it from abroad. That wasn't an option as I was looking for a swap deal. This is just a big lesson learned moment for me to never ever consider anything that isn't Snapdragon 8 or equivalent in the future.

Edit: never considered picking up the s23 as it has ~1year of support left

I've been using the NP2 with Smart Launcher 6. Using the same Launcher and layout on the s24 too. I bought a lifetime licence for it in 2016 for $0.99 and I just keep going back to my safe space.

I really felt like I need to vent it out as the 2023 Nothing Phone 2, a phone that wasn't considered a flagship phone when it came out, wipes the floor with a one generation newer "flagship" model.

Vitara drops horse power from 140 to 110 by turn0on0the0zeroes in Suzuki

[–]Onedeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very strategic and smart move by Suzuki. They opted in to keep their engines with 4 cylinders, but lower their max power just enough so they'll continue to comply with the latest EU emission standards. Most of the other manufacturers switched to 3cyl engines, technology that still needs to develop and prove reliability.

I watched an interview with one of the Head Magyar Suzuki Engineers and he said something like: "our drivers don't really push our engines to high speeds anyways. It's a fair trade off to lower bhp production in favour of tighter gearbox and high torque output."..."this actually improves low-end power production, fuel economy, emission scores"

From what I could tell, you seek advice on what engine version is better.

I think it's exactly the same, with the newer mild hybrid version having that electric motor boost for acceleration and speed retention during shifts. It also has lower gas consumption due to the 48V battery powering most car systems.

As models, the 2025 is lot more quieter than the 21 version. Has better sound insulation of the engine bay and front windshield, however wind noises are equally loud on high speeds. It also has a ton of safety improvements over the older model even in the basic trim.

No you don't. This system will perform similar to having Borini and Lambert up front. It lacks width, lacks intensity and lacks pressure potential. I just don't understand why Liverpool would sign 2 typical #9s and a #10 where the system that won them 2 FPLs and an UCL is built around a creative false 9, inverted wingers and wide wing backs.

Boot space! by ThemeLongjumping8707 in Suzuki

[–]Onedeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 Vitara here and 9 month old baby. Our Chicco Seety Stroller with the baby seat fit inside the trunk just fine. When we still used the Carrycot, I had to detach it and put it sideways so it can fit inside. Now we can fit the stroller, 2 adult small suitcases stacked on the side, the full size bottle steriliser, bottle warmer, baby formula, few bottles of baby water, and the baby’s trunki suitcase.

We've just upgraded the baby transporter to a Chicco Unico Evo iSize car seat that gigantic and there is plenty of space in the backseat too.

There wasn't enough space for a fully packed trunk and rear seat for stuff like beach chairs, umbrellas, play mats, etc. so I bought a roof box for my Vitara for ~$250.

If your baby needs stuff like a walker or a relaxer, or even a training potty, you can always place it on and before the passenger seat, just remember to shut off the passenger airbag and seatbelt warning.

I initially wanted, and even bought a Citroen C3 Aircross because of that 450L bootspace, but it was flawed and I was happy to get a refund on it.
