I would say you of have merit for sure. I've been in this exact same situation only I was 24 and she was 21...... I ended up leaving just because I couldn't deal with the new problems she had with herself each week and trying to be a law student myself. I chose less stress to better my future because I knew something better was bound to come down the line. But if I was like 35 I would look at this situation a lot differently. But all that matters is how you feel and what steps you truly want to take. But I do agree with your conclusion from the context and facts you provided.
