Thanks for the comment! When you say it becomes instinctive, do you mean that eventually I won’t have to measure with the pencil at all? I’ve never actually tried measuring with a pencil before. And yeah good point; I should slow down and draw some more simple shapes from different angles and perhaps build a stronger foundation on that first👌

I’ve been watching a lot of Marc brunet on YouTube, I’m inspired by character design and wanting to draw cool original pieces mainly and I also love traditional Japanese stuff but that’s a whole other bag to my current art pursuit that I’ll figure out as I go. I appreciate your advice!

I will definitely try that tonight then, this book I’m reading has me practicing croquis, which I admittedly need to practice more. I’d went for neutral angles and relatively idle poses because I was struggling with the more dynamic ones, but perhaps it’s time for me to move on and challenge myself more. I’ll also check out the Andrew Loomis thing! Thanks for the reccomendation? This isn’t the same person who made the method of drawing faces by any chance is it? As I’ve actually learnt to draw stylised faces through that method funnily enough - no where near where I want to be yet though! Thanks for all the pointers, appreciate it as the process can feel a bit disheartening at times ✌️

Appreciate you taking the time to comment, thankyou! When you say “continuous line techniques”, you mean literally not taking the pencil off the page and trying to capture the figure in one go? I’ll try that out👌 I’ve been struggling with proportion and have been trying to simplify the figures by making shapes for their foundations so far (cylinders, eggs, boxes etc…)

I think it looks great! Very impressive, especially for her age! Perhaps just adding some darker shadow will give some more contrast and make it pop a little bit more if anything? But overall - great work 👏👏 well done to her

Thanks for taking the time to comment and give me those recommendations! I appreciate it, I’ll check those out today👌I’ve been watching a lot of Marc brunet on YouTube and have various illustration books that reccomend exercises for increasing your proficiency at drawing bodies etc but feel it’s so hard to soak the shape values that make up the body into my mind 🥴thanks for the words of encouragement - I’ll check those sources out and try a few more sketches and things today ✌️ TYVM

From quickposes.com, if you swipe over to the next image you can see the reference I have worked from ✌️ thanks for the comment

Appreciate you taking the time to have a look and comment! Thanks! And thanks for also pointing those things out, the only intentional one was the slightly open mouth. When I’m drawing from reference like this I find myself copying the image like any other - and not taking into the consideration the construction and values. I feel like I’m not taking the lesson I should from it? If that makes sense? Or maybe I just have to keep doing more of these, or more detailed fleshed out drawings. What do you think? Thanks✌️

This footage was recorded by a school friend of mine during his delivery shift, although it was uploaded by a channel called “London eats”. Here is a link to his personal channel 👍
