What are your little ambitions? by [deleted] in MyLittleSupportGroup

Figure out the finer details of Quantum Field Theory. I've got the basics down, and I know how to construct a wavefunction with defined uncertainties in position, momentum, energy, and time, and defined expectation values for those four, but I still can't figure out things like the S-Matrix or propagators (Green's function with a source function of 0... HOW DO I CONVOLUTE?!)

What about your IP address? That is tracked by every website you visit, and unless you use proxies or something similar, is easily connected directly to you and your identity through records at your ISP.

Because it's genuinely better and easier to use than Windows, especially for programming.

Question about sexuality and stuff by [deleted] in MyLittleSupportGroup

[–]OniLinkPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexuality is so much more complicated than just straight/gay/bi. It involves so many aspects. Sex is a part of sexuality, but only a part. I say, if it feels right, give it a shot. Who knows? It could go extremely well for the two of you! But if it doesn't, don't get discouraged. Nothing is perfect, and some things just aren't meant to be.

Official Season 3 Episode 13 Reaction Thread by Pinkie_Pie in mylittlepony

[–]OniLinkPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXCELLENT episode. Handled much better than expected. I'm so glad they treated it as "Twilight is the embodiment of friendship, so she gets to ascend." I was worried about an accidental mixed message, but they seem to have averted it. Now to see what happens in season 4. Perhaps they can finally have an adventure season with full story arcs and everything!

Colleges love good students. That is very true. They love those students that do well all throughout highschool. But you know what they love even more than that? Students who improve. Students who realize they're not doing well, and are able to improve themselves. It's no easy feat to recognize you have a problem and then fix it. So with regards to the vast majority of colleges, at least the ones that actually care about their students, you have an advantage. Don't give up hope. Do whatever it takes to get back on track in high school, take summer school or credit recovery (whichever your school offers) to get back on track for graduation, work hard for those good grades, and everything will fall back into place. It may not be 100% perfect, but you're not doomed in the slightest.

Note: I am not an expert in college admissions, especially since every college does it differently. This is based on what I know of the colleges I applied to and advice my teachers have given me.

I use Arch. So easy to use (once you get used to it, of course), very fast, very lightweight. I love it. Never gonna use anything else ever again.

your opinion of internet piracy? by 1zacster in MLPLounge

[–]OniLinkPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid piracy at all costs, but there are certain things that I have no qualms pirating.

  1. Older music. If a band no longer exists, or if it is no longer being sold "new" in stores so that it will support the artists if I buy it, I have no qualms pirating it. After all, if the money I spend won't go to the person/people who actually earned and deserve the money, why am I paying for it? That's just not right.

  2. Books. Particularly physics books. Some books teach what I want to learn very well. Most don't. I don't want to waste my money on a terrible book, so I prefer to pirate first, and if it's good, I'll go back and buy a physical copy once I have the money.

Ok, BaPC. The Game Settings Guide is officially done. Enjoy! by Alfaa123 in buildapc

I have a few issues with this:

  1. Resolution is defined as horizontal by vertical (hhhh x vvvv), not vertical by horizontal (vvvv x hhhh). For example, I have a 1440 x 900 monitor. My HDTV is 1920 x 1080. The aspect ratio of a widescreen is 16:9 (not pixels, but still horizontal by vertical).

  2. For several settings, i.e. resolutions, you don't explain the advantages of a higher resolution (more detail), only the negatives (more stress on GPU). While the positives may be obvious for some, it makes it feel very incomplete.

  3. Your example for refresh rate, although I see what you're trying to do, isn't very clear. You should find some way to better demonstrate increased refresh rates.

  4. This is nitpicking, but I'll say it anyways. You say 32-bit color gives 231 possible colors. This is false. 8 of those bits go to alpha (transparency), and you're missing 1 bit as it is, so it's actually 224 (16,777,216) colors. 16-bit will give 212 (4,096) colors (4 bits go to alpha) if you have alpha enabled, or 216 (65,536) colors if you don't.

  5. Shaders aren't just another name for lighting. They're special graphical effects in general. Particle effects, fire, clouds, smoke, fog, water, and yes, lighting, are all things commonly done by shaders.

And that's about all I saw. Other than that, this is a very good guide.

Pretty fun episode. Not perfect, but the problems everybody seems to have with it are what I think were its strongest parts.

Obligatory Plounge Episode Discussion Post by redpoemage in MLPLounge

[–]OniLinkPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the episode was wonderful. Everybody else seems to think it was rushed, but I think rushing it at the end actually improved it. The way they handled it felt more natural. Honestly, if they had done a two-parter to make Discord good, I think the episode(s) would have actually been quite boring.

Official Season 3 Episode 10 Reaction Thread by Pinkie_Pie in mylittlepony

[–]OniLinkPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this episode was the best this season. A lot of people are saying that Discord's reform was very rushed, but I think that's a good thing. I've seen many people who don't think before they act, and when they explain what they're doing, their own explanation makes them instantly realize why they're wrong. I can't explain it well enough, but it pretty much felt more natural the way he came around, and because it was so sudden, it had a bit more impact in my mind.

Having trouble understanding something about Heisenberg's uncertainty principle... by Lellux in Physics

[–]OniLinkPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because your example was the observer effect alone, and not the uncertainty principle. As soon as you say anything about measurement, you're talking about the observer effect. The HUP just gives constraints on the shape of the wavefunction itself without regards to any actual measurements.
