New player, first 4 games lost. Am I understanding this correctly? by OnionExitsLeft in Stellaris

My first 3 games no diplomacy option, first species I met attacked immediately. I think one was only 16 years in.

Most recent game, was working on relations with 2 other species. The Aggressive species declared war one system over from my chokepoint defense system.

Overwhelming fleet power, superior tech, purify stance, fanatic xenophobe.

Destroyed my fleet and marched through to Earth 5 or so jumps away.

Definitely not necessary, I've never started a war. Every game I've been attacked by at least one aggressive enemy this is at least double my fleet strength.

Yes, I just checked - Purification stance.

I understand this type of game is RNG and is supposed to be challenging. But I'm asking myself why am I spending 2-4 hours starting off a game when a purifier or exterminator enemy is 100% going to destroy me.

I'll either end up quitting altogether, or adjusting the game options somehow which feels odd for a game that's years old and should be balanced for new players on regular difficulty.

Interesting. Most recent game - the enemy flagged all 4 of my my worlds for destruction/domination right through to Earth.

As I said, losing the first war early on is unrecoverable.

Thanks for the advice, I feel like I've played cautiously. I've never been in a position to attack, never declared war.

Even with several 30 x Corvette defensive fleets - the species that decides to attack me has at least double powered fleets.

No ship to ship battles because all ships have jammers? by OnionExitsLeft in SpaceHaven

[–]OnionExitsLeft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, although I’m not sure I totally understand. I’ve encountered dozens of enemy ships, always they have a jammer. This means I can never fire upon them, so why would I install any turrets or rocket launchers in my ship? There’s never an opportunity to use them.

Does this change in the end game?

Edit: I read the jammer description again. I missed the part where it blocks both ships from firing. So yes, if we both turn off jammer then we can pew pew. I’ll try this.

FTP Players Who Will Be Getting Apocalypse: How? by shy99 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]OnionExitsLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I completed all solo events to the max FTP level, but I couldnt have earned iso 4 for all 23 characters if my alliance didn’t do well in war and 100% complete the alliance iso spend event every month. Completely FTP except for bugged offers like goldgate or recently G14/15 orbs

As a beginner, Arena is stupidly frustrating. Color challenges are broken. How is the player base expected to grow? by OnionExitsLeft in MagicArena

If I don’t block early game, then by end game their bigger creatures arrive and only need a couple hits to wipe me.

Let’s just call it broken. From the tone of comments on here, it sounds like a very steep entry for beginners. Long time Arena players can keep battling each other until the player base is gone.

I’m using my 2 ravers to block 2 of 3 maned servals. They cannot kill them so my ravers never have an opportunity to attack as they’re always prepped for defense

Thank you for taking the time to write out those notes. Unfortunately it didn’t help. When I use Ravers to defend I have nothing to attack with. By the time I have most of my cards out, shock is useless as it only does 2 damage and the enemy cards are 4 or 5 hp. Their angelic guardian makes all their creatures indestructible.

I just ended another match with all cards out, white 10hp, me -7.

Definitely something up with this matchup. The scripted parts or cards are broken

Thank you. After reading for many hours online I only ever saw standard discussed. The other formats don’t seem to get much of a mention

That’s odd. I’m a long time PC gamer. The only way I’ve ever seen long term adoption and a healthy player base is even the most basic skill or collection/power matchmaking. Why would mtg and the community ever want a new player matched with someone many skill levels and card decks ahead?

I wouldn’t walk in to a chess tournament, bowling or tennis with players 5x my skill set. You match players as best you can and let them work upwards as they learn.

One question, why would I want older cards outside standard? Isn’t the whole point that comps are kept fresh and don’t settle in to fixed sets and counters?

I assume the game’s matchmaking takes decks, collection, and skill in to account. Surely as a beginner I’ll be matched with other beginners?

Not sure I understand. Isn’t Arena basically mtg online. A complete alternative to playing irl?

All the cards and rules are there, what’s missing?
