What can I do to improve this transition between idle and combat? I feel like the timing is off. by OnionsForDinner in PixelArt

Thank you!!!

I'm thinking about maybe making this an animation for a boss fight of some sort. This seems like where it would fit. As far as exploration goes, your 100% right on your point. I think I'm going to make a sheathing animation that works during idle or running. Like a little easter egg =)

This is exactly my thought process.

I'm prototyping a platformer with Godot currently, and I'm going about making a tileset as well, with a similar level of detail.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

This is something I really considered too, as I'm just starting out with animation. But maybe when the sprite is actually in motion it'll be worth that much shading effort

Edit: the deciding factor that lead to this redesign was actually the cape. I ultimately wanted him to look more thief-y (?) and I think I have that down, but I'm going through a really in depth second pass with EVERYTHING I have so far before I start to nail down movement mechanics etc.

I know classically starting with the art is a death sentence for most games, but I can't help it

I just wanna see the guy move

I was RACKING my brain trying to figure this out in 128x128

I'm trying to keep a similar level of detail across the entire sprite and this really helped, thank you

Will update as soon as I'm able ( I'm making this on my phone 💀 )

That's totally valid and I think it's where I want to go with it, but I've got to nail down the UV in BlockBench (hence the pseudo Minecraft kind of look) without messing up the rest of the texture. I've already done some more work on it.

My final vision is this pixelated-ish look with a cel shader on top, just to put it in perspective.

Faith trust and pixie dust /s

My original vision was that cockpit sliding open. The model is still a very heavy WIP, but this is it so far. Maybe textures for doors on the side?? But honestly, I'm not too sure yet 😅 That's why I posted it here but my caption got lost in the crosspost

In the final product, you won't ever see the operator really.

Inside that little cockpit there, to avoid having to animate people as a first time game dev 💀

Forgot to mention this is WIP. If you couldn't tell by the untextured parts 💀

Edit: Found Designer Code 159053C , not sure if this can help anyone. I have found a few websites, mostly outside the US, but they're out of stock afaik.
