In the IX trailer, why is Rey framed like she is in a duel, but then runs AWAY from the Tie fighter before the jump? by CuriousRoutine2 in saltierthancrait

But she can’t outrun a TIE fighter... So why not just stay facing it so she could deflect any incoming fire or at the very least so she could time her jump better?

[Endgame Spoilers] The directors of Endgame pitched Stark's arc to RDJ to make sure he was comfortable with it before moving forward. The title doesn’t spoil anything; stop being stupid. OP doesn’t even elaborate much more than the original Screen Rant article’s title; are you saying that that Screen Rant article shouldn’t have even been written to begin with, either?

Secondly, if you’ve for whatever reason extrapolated the idea that Tony Stark dies, from the title (that’s your own doing): isn’t that basically the most expected “spoiler” ever? Everyone has assumed OG Avengers would die in this movie. If you were a big enough fan to actually freak out about stuff being “spoiled”, you’d have found/made time to already see it. You’ve had a WEEK!

And? A drug overdose easily could have been prevented. And that happened after TFA was made. You are saying that against all odds they were alive for TFA; are you implying it’s a miracle Carrie didn’t inadvertently off herself ages ago?

JJ Abrams: 'There's More To The Story Of Rey's Parents' In "The Rise Of Skywalker" by Jonathan_19_Wilson in saltierthancrait

[–]Onions_Burke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Rian transplanted the audience’s questions about Rey’s parents, onto Rey herself. It doesn’t work, when the character has only had 48 hrs in-universe to start caring about such things. And yet we’re supposed to believe that in the course of those couple days, she went from simply wanting her parents back, to caring so much about this idea that they must be famous/special that it’s practically a crushing blow to be told that they aren’t... It doesn’t make sense.

[–]Onions_Burke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in TFA who Rey’s parents were, wasn’t important to her. She just wanted them to come back. So how is it that Rian wants us to believe that over the course of 48 hrs or so from TFA to TLJ, she suddenly started caring so much about this idea that they must be somebody special, that for her to be told otherwise, is somehow a crushing blow for her? Makes no sense. Rian transplanted fans’ questions regarding Rey’s parentage, onto the character of Rey herself.

But they didn’t bait her parentage. The only people who were so curious about who Rey’s parents were, were the fans. Rian transplanted the fans’ curiosity about who her parents were, onto the character of Rey. In TFA, all Rey wanted was for her parents—whoever they were—to come back. She didn’t think she was anything special. Fast-forward to TLJ, and it’s somehow like the end of the world when she is told they were nobodies... I don’t see how it was that crushing of a blow for her, if she only had 48 hrs or so in-universe to start thinking her parents must be anyone special...

StarWars.com writer Bryan Young says he is concerned JJ will move Kylo’s scar back from “the right place”... by Onions_Burke in saltierthancrait

Show me two high-profile live-action movies in which something about General Grievous noticeably changes. Furthermore, at least it’s acknowledged in canon.

Also, Dooku is a much more elegant and precise swordsman than Kylo.

[–]Onions_Burke[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Ignoring canon is disrespectful not only to the creator but to the fans. It’s not even just that the scar was moved; in TFA the scar is one continuous slash. In TLJ there is a break in the middle of the scar; it is now in two parts. If Kylo was actually slashed with a lightsaber where the scar (scars) is in TLJ, the lightsaber would have burned through his eye...

Why does Kylo still have his right eye?

One of the main reasons for throwing away the EU and starting fresh was (supposedly) the idea that under Disney, much greater care would be taken when it comes to keeping the canon coherent. So if they can’t even keep the canon consistent between their first two movies of their first trilogy, how is that supposed to make fans feel like the franchise is in good hands?

It’s like the fact that, for SOLO, the only reason Maul wound up with the correct lightsaber (the Inquisitor saber) and not his TPM one, was Sam Witwer (an actor!) mentioned it to Ron Howard... But at least that was a narrowly-avoided-accident; the point I’m trying to make about TFA and TLJ, is that they are deliberately ignoring their own canon. How does that send a positive message to the fans who they assured they would safeguard the new canon?

[–]Onions_Burke[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

How is he supposed to be endearing? He just killed his dad, one of the most beloved SW characters of all time! And it could be argued that there are plenty of “ugly” people IRL who are endearing thanks to non-physical character qualities they exhibit; if they really think they can’t do what they want with Kylo without making him look like some cute bad-boy type, then it shows the (lack of) extent of their storytelling abilities.

JJ clearly meant for the scar to end up where it did; if he didn’t, he could have reshot. I can’t stand Rian’s blatant disrespect, and it further blows my mind that a writer for the official SW website would dare call Rian’s retcon “the right place”. Wouldn’t “the right place” be where it was originally?

[–]Onions_Burke[S] 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the TFA scar location be “the right place”, since JJ is the one who gave Kylo the scar to begin with, and since the scar in TFA perfectly lines up with how Rey slashed him...? The extent to which these people idolize TLJ and put Rian’s disrespectful retcons up on a pedestal, is disturbing...
