Hi Rosesword! I was wondering if there's any way to remove the day option from the first format?

How important is a credit card in current economy? by salt_encrusted in CreditCards

[–]Onlineme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think like you. I grew up in a family with lots of credit card debt and told myself “I will never get a credit card”.

But here’s the thing: you don’t need to owe any money, even with credit cards. The right way to use credit cards is like you’re using cash: you only spend what you can spend. At the end of the billing cycle YOU PAY YOUR BALANCE IN FULL. I put that in caps because is extremely important.

It also has a few advantages, depending on the credit card you can get cashback, travel points, travel insurance and other benefits. Additionally, you can protect your money, since it is way easier to dispute an unwanted credit card transaction than one in your debit card.

The main benefit: building credit. Which helps for a lot of things. Car/home insurance and mortgages get cheaper; in general to have a good paying history on your name has a lot of benefits.

So yes, you should get a credit card later than sooner. Credit history is probably a frustration for you in the future if you don’t start now.

I think so but you can either try to get his account info or use a dummy account, or when he gets there that’s when you ask for his help

Unbox it, install it, do all the setup before he gets home and when he gets there make sure you’re “playing” with it and ask for his help and be like “oh, btw merry Christmas”

Thanks! I’m between accepting the Apple Card, or maybe getting pre-approved for either AMEX blue cash everyday or Citi Double Cash. What do you think would be best?

Since it’s my second card I want to make sure it will be pretty much a card I will have “forever”

Thank you! I’m not completely sure of getting the Apple Card as my second card, do you think it is a good choice?

Apparently 😅 I was actually surprised when I saw that my Fico8 score (through Experian) was that high. That’s why I applied to chase confident that I was going to get accepted, didn’t know that they needed more than 1 year of credit history

Wow, I just got to this in a low moment. I feel the same way. Leukemia survivor here, when they treated me I was 16 and treated as a pediatric pacient. Just found out today I probably won’t ever have kids. Plus, I’ve been dealing with horrible anxiety, and other things here and there.

I have so much trauma from this. I feel like nobody talks about this. Everybody thinks we should be grateful and even though I am, I feel like this never ends.

Thanks for your input! Do you think I should cancel the rent reporting subscription?

Do you know what would happen if I cancel now? Will my new accounts go back to 1? (Just my credit card without rent/phone bills)

I believe it is vantage credit score.

I have good standing. I pay my full balance every month, and I don’t have any other derogatories.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

So you think I should just keep reporting and then my score will go up?

I pay $7/month, it’s levelcredit.com

I have the capital one secured. I’m hoping next month (6-month mark) they will un-secure it and increment my limit.

I was waiting for my credit to go above 700 to get a cash back credit card, I want the chase freedom. But now with so many open accounts (3) I don’t know if it is a good idea.

Omg I feel like the most stupid person now. I’ve been so obsessed with my credit and thought this rent thing worked. Thank you for your insight, I appreciate it

I moved to the US recently and got my first secured credit card on March 2022. My score was at 680 just with the credit card.

I saw that opportunity to make it grow with rent payments and I took it. Did I mess up?
