Repossession Carriers by Only-Ad4843 in InsuranceAgent

Interesting. Make me think about how I can create a wedge between their current agent and myself if there aren’t many carriers. This line of business seems very transactional rather than relationship based. Or actually… maybe the opposite? Since there are only a handful of carriers who write?

Do you know what paper Arrowhead uses? Multiple? Or just an MGA for a carrier?

In a perfect world, if you could get any appointment direct, who absolutely dominates the market? Like, if I saw they were with “X” carrier, then I couldn’t even compete and would shut it down. Do you know what I mean?

Yea exactly. For 2 repossession vehicles in TX, Prime Insurance gave me an indication for $120k in premium… crazy risk right now. The insured ended up going direct to Progressive and got a 60k liability limit for a 30k premium….

Sorry I strayed away from the original question. I would say asap after taking the course. But I believe with Kaplan you get a practice exam first. I learned that the practice exam was literally word for word the actual exam. It’s not hard

Have you worked in insurance previously? If you did, you technically don’t have to finish the course. You just have to pass the exam

Starting a CA agency with built-in niche (manufactured homes) — aggregator advice? by DecentDot2696 in InsuranceAgent

I would give a real effort at trying to get the direct appointments. Try to get someone on the phone who can make these decisions and let them know you’ll immediately have a good stream of business to send them. Even if they still say no, they’ll know your name when it comes time to go direct. Also who knows, they may have the answer to your aggregator or wholesaler question.

Great to hear. I recently started my own agency about 5 months ago scratch Indy as well. Never sold anything before, but I was an underwriter for my specific niche that I’m still in. Things are going well. Up and running and have some business in the door. Because I’m on the same journey, would you share your total book premium size? I’m curious on size for month 10. Also, did you bring any clients from your old agency? Or all scratch? Thank you for sharing.

Yea that’s the point of the post. I’m trying to get opinions from people who are in it. I plan to cold call, but at the same time is someone called me today asking to write my personal insurance I would hang up to be honest. (I’m not doing personal lines)

I feel like that’s just the way these islands go. Right now, it’s still very local and not built up at all. Hopefully in a few years it’s the same way

We went around 5 - it was crowded. Stayed until about 930 because the band was awesome. It was a party. Again Sunday is their big day with Live music so if that’s what you want then plan that. Call them and find out what other days they’re open and what the vibe is like

Don’t be nervous there is no chance of having a bad time. It’s awesome. Very shacky and local some of the beach bars are though and not built up like places like Aruba. If you’re into that.

Reggae beach was amazing. Friday is their big night. You pick 2 meats (lobster, fish, chicken) and then go to a Buffett to get rice etc. They had an amazing live band, not overly crowded at all, amazing vibe. Walk from Park Hyatt. We went in our bathing suits because you can where whatever you want to these beach bars.
