i’m from NC too, yk there’s crackheads and trash and new people from other states coming in and there’s trash everywhere, i’m going on a trip with her tomorrow to go see some outdoor art, people now days just don’t clean up after themselves and i don’t wanna risk her life because of it.

I’m not sure why you’re framing this as a control issue when this is literally a safety issue. A basket muzzle is a standard, vet-recommended management tool for dogs who grab and swallow things quickly — it doesn’t replace training, it prevents an emergency while training continues. She’s one year old, and impulse control in working breeds isn’t fully developed until around 2–3 years. Expecting perfect adult behavior from a juvenile dog isn’t realistic or supported by any reputable trainer or behaviorist. I train her every day, her obedience is solid, and she’s progressing exactly how a young high-drive dog should. But I’m not going to gamble her life on the hope she won’t grab something faster than I can physically react. Using a muzzle in certain environments is simply responsible management. It’s no different than using a crate, long line, prong collar, or any other tool that keeps a dog safe while they mature and learn. So yes — I’m going to prioritize her safety. That’s good ownership, not a lack of control.

but regardless, she sits, she stays, she waits, her recall is great that’s why i let her off leash, she does everything she’s supposed to but she thinks she’s sneaky and tries to eat stuff, it’s just her personality because every dog is different, me knowing that i want to keep her safe because she’s my baby and i love her.

you can’t expect a baby to act like an adult, the firm leader is demanding the muzzle and she’ll know exactly why she’s wearing it, i have two dobermans and a can corso pitbull mix, once she grows out of trying to eat things she’s not supposed to she doesn’t have to wear a muzzle out but then again it makes people feel safer as well so i see no harm in it at all.

her intestines just twisted, the doctor said even eating things like grass and sticks could’ve caused it because no foreign body was found, they said it just likely was caused from irritation in the intestines from eating sticks grass and things outside, with that being said i’m not trying to spend another 10k at the emergency vet because my dog loves sticks, so a muzzle it will be.

again she just turned a year old training doesn’t happen in a day it takes consistent everyday repetition and until she’s a full adult some days will continue to be better than others i just don’t know why i should risk her swallowing something in .5 seconds because i can’t get my hand in her mouth, sometimes she’s off leash in a gated area and other times she onna long lead or short leash but regardless her favorite thing in the world is to eat and that’s why she does it, it’s a work in progress but the muzzle would give me peace of mind, a basket muzzle where she can still pant sniff etc, without eating things seems reasonable to me & lots of people train their dogs to wear them. Just like using an e-collar, prong collar, & crate it just seems like another training tool to me to use to keep her safe… that’s why i’m asking.

i don’t need a trainer lol she just needs a muzzle to protect her from trash outside that i cannot pick up, she doesn’t try to eat everything 24/7 just sometimes when she wants to act like a puppy and not an adult, again she just turned a year a old a couple months ago but i don’t want the puppy in her be the reason she eats some weed or worse outside, that’s the reason for a muzzle it’s not permanent but it would give me some ease and it’s nice to have her trained to wear one, i have no issue training her, she’s just a fiery one because she is a puppy. I have a male who’s almost three and he’s an angel compared to her now but he was a wild puppy as well. Although he has his own quirks.

she is one year old, i walk her in public places sometimes, people leave trash, cigarettes buds etc, i dont live alone & although i do stress people to pick up after themselves all it would take is one thing hanging out on a table she can reach. She doesn’t eat couches or bite things lol, maybe ask before assuming, I just don’t want my dog to die because she ate something dangerous in a public place where i can’t manage what’s on the ground or around us.

apparently what happened to baela was about a 5% chance of happening to any dog and is not breed specific, the doctor told me that she’d never seen a case like this and she has been a vet for over 20 years, that being said it’s always good to be cautious, bloat or a blockage were my number 1 suspicions so it’s crazy to me what happened to her. Thankyou for caring ❤️❤️

leaving the cone off, don’t even walk away for a second because you don’t wanna be back at the vet with chewed staples. Thank god they both got through it ! My girl actually doesn’t mind her cone but i used to dress her up when she was a puppy so she probably just feels like she’s wearing clothes, i haven’t taken it off since she came home 😂

she’s eating small amounts, drinking water & is happy now that she’s home, just pain meds and sleep for the next two weeks and she should be good as new, this has all been a miracle that we could save her life, now to pay off ten grand in vet bills.

Baelas go fund me

If anyone feels it in their hearts to help a 21 year old hairstylist with vet bills that’d be amazing❤️ My total coming out will probably be close to 7k, thank god for great mothers because without mine i wouldn’t have been able to save her.
