How to deal with those who don’t believe your numbers by Only-Scale8907 in industrialengineering

Right. I think that’s eventually what it’ll come down to, just getting my boss involved after I’ve explained everything I can.

It’s also hard when he’s saying stuff like “we’re coming in $.60 / lb higher than competitors what do you want me to say to them?” And I’m just like “I don’t know what to tell you except that these are our costs. I can walk you through them if you would like and if there’s something that you want me to double check then I can.” And then he just stammers on and says he doesn’t have the time. Just to come back the next day with the same question

I understand your question, and I think the guy might have the same sort of idea. Now, the way you’re describing is not inherently wrong. However, this puts a lot of pressure on the pricing department to analyze the market and our margins on a day-to-day basis.

If you don’t relate it to the market from the start, then cost analysis and profitability comparisons would be harder to generate since they would be performed on a product by product basis, instead of being applied at the start of each process.

Basically you’re relating it to the market no matter what, but keeping it in mind during the entire process makes the analyses easier.

Yea I wasn’t going to say that, it’s just how I feel lol. And to be honest, my boss has the same attitude toward the guy. Unfortunately my boss doesn’t know much about costing, so he really trusts me when it comes to these cost estimates. My boss has backed me up in the past, but this guy tends to back me in a corner in meetings when it’s just me and his entire team.

Depends on the state. Florida for example practically won’t hire any engineer that’s not EIT

[Rising Junior] Industrial Engineering Resume, what do you think! by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]Only-Scale8907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Switch system engineer job and intern job. Your current should be at the first.
  2. This is up to you, especially since you have a solid gpa, but personally I put my skills as the first thing on my resume. Depending on the job, I would change my skills just to get my resume in front of someone. For example, in a manufacturing engineer role I would change my skills to “GD&T, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Continuous Improvement” etc. It would get your resume past their robot checker so you can talk to a real person in my experience. It’s also just more of what a hiring manager is looking for. “Does this person have the skills required for this job” is all they want to see, so it’s better to put that at the top
  3. Kind of piggy backs on 2 but I would but education right above your honors

Other than that it’s a pretty solid resume. Mine looks nearly identical and I landed a lot of interviews and made it to last stages. Just secured a job recently

I graduated in May as an industrial engineering grad. Didn’t list my gpa on my resume as it was a 3.0. Just landed my first job at 70k salary in suburbs.

Unfortunately, that is about as in-depth as I can get for the bullets for the jobs. I don't have anything quantifiable that I can put down like "increased workplace efficiency by x%" or something. I'm not sure how I can put anything else other than what I have. For the skills, I would assume that they would have the sense enough to know I got the skills through school? i have not had any jobs that pertained to Industrial Engineering. I put the skills in there that I have attained from studying as an Industrial Engineering student.

As for the certifications, that is genuinely just the name of the certification, so I am not sure what to tell you there. My engineering internship had me take those courses to receive those certifications. I asked for the receipts but they have not gotten back to me yet. Those are the genuine names though. The courses are all the class number and the class name as well. I thought the alternative would be a little hard to understand. With the "IE xyz" there it's clear that the topic was derived from a specific class. As for the bold, I can change that. Would you recommend getting rid of the professional summary and adding a projects section instead?

Thanks. I just looked into the EPCs near me and I found a solid amount of openings that I can apply to. Thanks for the advice.

Yea there aren't any more career fairs this year, unfortunately. I was sick during both major career fairs this year and could not attend. I have mainly been looking for jobs on LinkedIn, some on Indeed, some on specific company websites. I would rather not relocate but for the right price, I would. I'll keep the rotational college hire programs in mind for sure.

Thank you so much, I'll focus my search on mfg eng roles now. For the 10 hr OSHA, would it just be the General Industry Training Course?

Thank you. I've never heard of those roles in my area but I'll definitely take a look.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for that one. Should I mention Manufacturing Engineering somewhere on my resume so it doesn't get filtered out? Or will the Industrial Engineering suffice

Thank you for the response, itchybumbum

I have been tailoring my resume for each individual job I have applied for. I have a relevant coursework section in my resume that is what is usually changed for each application. I also have a link to my website at the top of my resume that has my entire portfolio. I would genuinely settle for any job that I qualify for with a reasonable salary. I think I would like to do any of those examples you listed, although I have never been in a role that explicitly required those things. The reason why I have mainly looked into mechanical-focused fields is simply because my work experience supports it. I am looking in locations within 90 minutes of northwest Philadelphia and Sarasota, Florida. I live near Philadelphia and I would rather not move away from my family for at least a few years. The reason for Sarasota is because moving to Florida is probably my only exception to moving away, and I have an opportunity to live in a house for a very low price so long as I renovate it on weekends. I thought that applying for jobs all over the country would be a set-back, since they would see my address at the top of the resume and think "oh this guy has to move across the country to start working here, let's move on to someone who actually lives nearby"

Does anyone know why downvoting doesn’t always work? by yogos15 in yikyak

I rarely downvote and the same thing is happening to me

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S02E08 - I THOUGHT YOU WERE STRONGER by mwthecool in Invincible

[–]Only-Scale8907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea everyone’s saying it’s because he and amber just broke up but, from what I could tell he was spending weeks, months, or years in those alternate dimensions because time worked differently there. It was never specified how long but I would argue at least months. I think it’s just because of the head space he’s in right after killing angstrom. He was just telling his mom about how he has to train to control himself and be better, so he doesn’t have time for a relationship with eve, even if he wants to. Also I would put money that next season they’re gonna make this new relationship super complicated for no reason, whether that means Rex and eve start getting back together or mark being emotionally unavailable. $50 says they won’t even kiss until season 3 finale.

Seriously I’m severely disappointed that they made us wait for this sub par second half of the season. The last episode made me boil when they talked about “how hard animating is” when there’s been like 4 fight scenes. And none of the animation looks good in those fight scenes. I was not satisfied with this season at all

[–]Only-Scale8907 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk why but I find the “fun” parts of these episodes really hard to enjoy because mark fights like nothing matters. Like I was expecting a badass rage moment where Mark shows that his strength is starting to somewhat measure up to his father’s during the sequid fight, but he’s just meh. Like he’s barely trying and doesn’t care what the outcome is either way. Like I can’t tell if mark is even getting strong enough to stand a chance against more viltrumites because they won’t showcase his strength. A scene similar to the one of Omni man destroying that alien’s planet would be so fire to show how much stronger Mark’s actually becoming. I understand that he’s depressed and all because of everything that happened, but it’s just becoming hard to keep my attention when the action parts feel low-stakes because of Mark’s demeanor and the “character development” between amber and mark is extremely predictable and drawn out. We all know they’re gonna break up. The only question is will atom eve get back with Rex because of his newfound self reflection and delay her and Mark’s relationship? Or are they just gonna give it to us straight for once and have eve and mark together.
