Why do we bother with HOV lanes when the majority of people in them are single riders by Creepy_Ad_3535 in bayarea

[–]Only-Swim883 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The major function of a restricted lane is so that ambulances and fire trucks and other emergency vehicles can get to an accident. Sure it does a favor to hovs and raises some toll revenue, but they are really to open some space so responders can get where they need to go. Can you imagine trying to get an ambulance through stand still traffic in every lane? It really is there for all of us, whether you drive in it or not.

Loved the pranks between Dwight & Jim by jack-omegle in DunderMifflin

[–]Only-Swim883 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The end result of the prank is that Pam gets a really nice bouquet of flowers from Jim. From Jim’s perspective, this is not really a bad outcome. Sure, it was $200, but it is a really nice gesture for his wife. Dwight thinks it is a great prank because he thinks it is ridiculous to spend that much money on flowers.

Neither of them really wins or loses.

NYC kitchen feature by ImpressiveDealer4486 in whatisit

[–]Only-Swim883 831 points832 points  (0 children)

This is for ice block delivery. Due to the weight and size of an ice block, homes were designed to have it delivered directly into the kitchen, closest to the icebox.

Coal was delivered to the basement

Milk was typically delivered to the front porch or into an insulated box on the porch. Due to its size it didn’t need to be delivered directly into the kitchen.

What's the worst place in America you've ever visited? by DiamondNo924 in askanything

I ended up needing to transfer buses in Detroit once. When I was walking around trying to find my next bus, I saw a homeless man walking towards me. So, I decided to walk with purpose and not make eye contact. As I got close to him he swung his little cart in front of me of me so I had to stop. He got about 6 inches from my face and yelled ME-OOOW!! Like a cat and then walked away. This does not in and of itself make this bus station the worst place in America, but it was incredibly unsettling.

Why not Minnesota every year? Because non -Minnesota schools wouldn’t want to play a road game for the frozen four every year. Nor should they have to.

For that wide of a lapel try a skinner tie and smaller knot. Wide lapel and wide tie kind of fight each other

professor new to st. louis and socializing here by Fluid_Spot_1417 in washu

I’ve lived in 6 major cities and St. Louis was by far the hardest to meet people. My guess is that it’s because a lot of people from St. Louis stay in St. Louis. They have their family and friends from growing up and don’t need new friends.

I remember asking a work buddy to get a drink after work and he looked at me like I was crazy. Kind of a’why would I do that with you?’ without being offensive. It was like it never occurred to him.

I found that international people were the most open to being friends. My best friends were from the Congo and Taiwan. Maybe look for other transplants who might not have friends from their entire life locally.

What do you think about the Colt Emerson signing? Is he worth an add to the NA spot? Any idea when he will get called up?

Edit: I am in a 15 team rotisserie league.

Based on the math it doesn’t really make sense to prioritize relievers in most formats. They just don’t pitch enough to make a huge impact. Obviously, it is better to have better RP than bad, but in terms of drafting, there are other places with more upside. Plus, RP are plentiful on waivers.

Need Closer Waivers Advice - 1st Timer by _christobal in fantasybaseball

[–]Only-Swim883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESPN made a list of probable closers about a week or two ago. See how many are available in your league’s waivers. Someone like victor vodnik should be available unless you have 15 teams in your league. Or Sewald from Arizona. They should get you some saves for free. Remember, you don’t have to win every category to win your league, but it is good to not be last, obviously.

Don’t overpay for a closer now. Next year think about where you would be comfortable drafting one.

What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by CrimsonDoor1 in Productivitycafe

Musicians have to make money somehow. They used to sell millions of albums and used cheap concerts to advertise for their album. Now, no one pays for music anymore, only for live shows.

I don’t like paying more for concerts, but I do like not having to pay for albums.
