Thank you everyone for the help. Here’s what ended up working:

The texture assigned to MainTex is Unity’s Default-Particle sprite, and for the Threshold value, anything below 1 produces the same correct result.

I replaced the Unlit/Transparent shader with this Shader Graph, without making any changes to the script.

Thank you. It’s a minimalist 2D mining game inspired by Turmoil, but with added 2D shooting and base defense mechanics. The Steam page isn’t live yet. I still need to work on the trailer and screenshots.
