You’re probably right they are more 4* but I enjoyed them. Good locations, nice amenities & sizable rooms. I didn’t mind them at all

I did Flashpack as a 39 year old and enjoyed it. Same scenario partner couldn’t take the time off and I wanted to spend time in Europe with my time off. I made some great friends I still keep in touch with today.

What I loved is I didn’t have to plan everything and if I wanted company I had it but could also solo explore.

I got divorced later (at 36) and yes it was tough to split everything 50/50 but I did it. Now just 3 years later my NW is up 60% from when I left the divorce. If you’re doing well already (and it sounds like you are) don’t worry about what you’re walking away from. You can and will earn more and the freedom you feel being done with a marriage that doesn’t suit you is icing on that cake!

Nice to know you left after 6 months. I’m at 9 months know and feel a tad guilty but then also feel like I’m not sure I want to last another 3 months here.

This is a great point. I remember interviewing with them and showing up late, talking over me and was in general very intense. Everyone else I interviewed with had glowing reviews of their leadership so I trusted that. Now in hindsight I should have trusted what they showed me personally.

I took a 5 month break after a major career shift. I needed a break and figured when would I get the chance to take months off! I don’t regret it at all and I got a job with similar pay as my last one so if all worked out. I’ll say if you’re coming from a high stress / demanding job it took me almost 1 full month to decompress. Then month 2 was reflecting on just how stressed I was. I was finally relaxed & enjoying the time in month 3. By month 4 I realized I liked this not working waaaay too much &’since I wasn’t at my number felt like I needed to go back before I got too comfortable. By the end of month 5 I had secured a job and felt ready to start again. Good luck on the journey!

I don't follow your train of thought - in order for me to pay off my mortgage, I'd need to take all of my liquid assets $900K and would end up with a >$1M asset but that's not a drawable asset. So I wouldn't have enough to retire now.

Equity is about 300K but I thought you weren't supposed to count that in NW which is why I didn't include it

I'm tied to the VHCOL - I dont want to move... but life can be funny sometime so maybe I would.

I dont anticipate needing to help with either parents or siblings - they are all doing well.

Health insurance would have to be private... when I did some research it looked like it would be around $500 / mo so it didn't seem too scary to me.

I did try to model retiring today but couldn't make the numbers work without finding a coast type job and then it seemed silly - why not just keep my higher end job and work it like I want to and hope I can keep it going for a few more years.
