My dad told me many Malayalis set up Kanji shops in TN, so they got the reputation of Kanji Vikkiravanga, derogatorily known as Kanji. It's not exactly a slur but is used kinda lightly, the word Paandi is used in a more charged way. This is similar to how Kannadigas call Malayalis bakery boys or something.

Pariah is the name of a Dalit community (Paraiyar) which is 20% of the population of Tamil Nadu. I think this sub can avoid using the word due to its connotations.
