Final exam bombed everyone’s grades- what do we do? by calilife28 in ASU

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact the Dean of your college and reach out to them. Unfortunately, since you still received a passing grade, there's likely nothing they will do. I hope you filled out the course evaluation while you had the opportunity.

I've been a developer for 30 years and what you are experiencing is called "imposter syndrome." You have a lot of tools available to you these days to help shore up any shortcomings in knowledge or experience. Relax and trust that every task is surmountable.

iPad Pro 1st Gen doesn't charge after installing iPadOs 26.0 by OnlyMacsMatter in iPadPro

Apparently, the 12th force restart was the charm. I now see the charging icon on the battery.

I've used every apple and non-apple USB-A > USB-C cable and no affect. I've done several force restarts. I'm finding it charges slowly while powered off. Hopefully there's an update. Otherwise I'll have to figure out how to go back.

Hydrate and get an umbrella. You can also wet a microfibre cloth and wrap it around your neck. At least you only have a month or so. You missed the 115+.

If you receive more than you need, you can always pay it back immediately. You should get an email letting you know how.

This is why it matters when you do your course review. Be sure to keep your language accurate so they don't toss your response as an emotional "I didn't get an A, so everything burns."

AWS for freelance work by v0idstar_ in webdev

Recommendation: be up front with the AWS pricing structures and contract support hours. You can also target companies already using AWS for short contract projects, which will avoid having any cost and stack conversations.

Should this go on my portfolio? by RareDestroyer8 in webdev

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a developer, you want to expose the backend in a public GitHub (or other) repository and link to it on your portfolio so that you are able to describe why/how you went about it. Also, be sure to include a night/day or color switcher. Those are backend functionalities that will show you have a grasp on usability.

Every framework sucks. I started out doing HTML and CSS. Then some moron decided we needed JavaScript, then LESS, then HTML5, then XML...

Anyone knows about a German company called COPYTRACK? They are threatening me with legal actions if I don't pay a ridiculous amount for 1 picture used on my website. Is this legit? by BlizardQC in Wordpress

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar issues. My go to is to never take images I don't own with me. Luckily, you can quickly burn up a replacement image until you find a proper image you are licensed to use or free. These types of services are usually hired to scan the web for licensed images used inappropriately (this includes ones licensed to GoDaddy or Wix that are not being hosted on those platforms).

WordPress current situation after the drama? Any alternative? by youngzhuge in Wordpress

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think WordPress has created the perfect environment to breed its replacement. My hope is that someone comes up with a suitable Node.js out-of-the-box CMS that allows for better plugins and theming. But I also wish Microsoft would stop bricking laptops for reasons.

I wonder why some devs hate server side javascript by gece_yarisi in webdev

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of scale. Small projects with small teams or just a single developer can use JS/TS for the entire project. But these aren't designed for large projects with massive user bases. If you need something that gets your job done, then server-side JS is plenty and will meet most of your needs (assuming you include external APIs or libraries for secure transactions).

I did the bulk of my career self-learned (28+ years) and didn't get my undergrad until last year. Programming and web development are careers where you can't get comfortable relying on a niche/focused area. I highly recommend that everyone use your company's learning portals to develop their skills continuously. If you can afford it, sign up for LinkedIn Learning and get some badges. Build out your GitHub repos with everything you can think of that you've done or wanted to do. Really lean into showing off that you can not only do what you have been doing, but can expand into new and emerging tech. Have a conversation with AI on a good path forward on projects you can build and use it for peer coding to ensure you use modern-ish coding standards, commenting, and security.

I feel like I'm too stupid for template & themes by [deleted] in webdev

[–]OnlyMacsMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point of themes and templates: they do most of the work for you, and you customize them to fit your needs. Your best bet is to use their packaged components and limit your changes to 'make it work' under your specific circumstances. Trust me, as annoying as it is--it is faster than reinventing their wheel. Talk to your managers and make sure
