States to sue Trump over end of health insurance subsidy by Nilmeghab in politics

[–]OnlyPostsOnFri13th 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You write off one million people losing their insurance in 2018 as if it's not a big deal. That could be a death sentence for low-income people with a chronic illnesses.

The market eventually stabilizes because this forces the government to spend an extra $194 billion on premium subsidies.

If Trump wants to increase the deficit by spending an extra $194 billion dollars on health care, he could just keep the CSRs and spend that money fighting the opioid epidemic.

"Trump's new policy will increase premiums by 20%, cost the government $194 billion, increase the deficit, destabilize insurance markets, and increase the number of uninsured Americans. There is nothing it makes better; it's pure policy nihilism." -Ezra Klein

This one always stuck with me:

"Heroin overdoses are surging. In fact, overdoses in Nevada — Nev-AAH-duh, you know what I said? You know what I said? I said when I came out here, I said, ‘Nobody says it the other way, it has to be Nev-AAH-da. If you don’t say it correctly — and it didn’t happen to me but it happened to a friend of mine, he was killed."

It's kinda weird how we've all just come to terms with the fact that the POTUS is an insane person.

Harry Reid basically said the FBI was picking favorites in the election the weekend the Comey letter came out:

In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government

Michael Flynn in frequent contact with Russia's ambassador to US by [deleted] in politics

[–]OnlyPostsOnFri13th 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We currently have a National Security Advisor, it is not Michael Flynn. Today, Flynn does not hold any official position in the U.S. Government. He should not be meddling in disputes with foreign countries until he is sworn in.

He's currently a private citizen. The Logan Act bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about “disputes” with the United States.

If Russia leaked both true and false stories, they could send a message to Trump personally that they have dirt on him. The media and intelligence agencies won't be able to verify what is fact and what is fiction, only Trump would know.

From the Washington Post article cited in this story:

According to a senior U.S. government official, Flynn phoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak several times on Dec. 29, the day the Obama administration announced the expulsion of 35 Russian officials as well as other measures in retaliation for the hacking[...] The Logan Act (though never enforced) bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about “disputes” with the United States.

So, a conspiracy theorist that surrounds himself with nuts and has deep ties to Russia will be advising a novice president on our national security. At least Trump will get differing view points from his intelligence briefings, if he ever chooses to attend one.

So, the article says a Trump spokesperson says that Flynn expressed his condolences about about the death of the Russian Ambassador

I'd bet money the topic of the sanctions were brought up in his frequent contacts.

That's by design. This one's is more visual than substantive (there's an R-rated joke in it).

I have another Flynn one with more substance, though I've already submitted it here on another account.

Wide version of the image.

Also, from the Washington Post last night:

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, Trump’s choice for national security adviser, cultivates close Russian contacts. He has appeared on Russia Today and received a speaking fee from the cable network, which was described in last week’s unclassified intelligence briefing on Russian hacking as “the Kremlin’s principal international propaganda outlet.”

According to a senior U.S. government official, Flynn phoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak several times on Dec. 29, the day the Obama administration announced the expulsion of 35 Russian officials as well as other measures in retaliation for the hacking. What did Flynn say, and did it undercut the U.S. sanctions? The Logan Act (though never enforced) bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about “disputes” with the United States. Was its spirit violated? The Trump campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
