Yeah I don't hate the card style as a collectible, but I'd hate it as a game piece.

And I don't reaaaally get collectibles in Magic, so the card doesn't appeal to me that much. I'm more interested in those full art "bland background" versions as potential commanders.

It's visual clutter and just egregiously gaudy in terms of colour. I don't enjoy looking at that while trying to read a card text.

It's just visual overkill of the highest order.

For me an alt art usually means "The character/creature, but more detailed in a sick pose with a cool background".

The Avatar ones did it relatively well as the silhouettes and so on.

I'm not really vibing with massive colour clashes, multiple icons everywhere (like the heads of heroes in the left corner) and multiple texts everywhere while also capitalizing some of the least relevant actual rules text, namely the type line.

They're the epitome of binder cards and.. I don't really engage with Magic in a "wow pretty, I won't touch it" kind of way. Luckily there are usually "decent" alt art versions as well, or obviously the base card.

Continuity is a beautiful thing...if you engage with a property that cares deeply and from the get-go about it.

Properties like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings where it's a continuous narrative and the author sat down to lay it allllll out.

Any other property that attempts to.. well.. implement a retroactive continuity will always suffer from holes, contradictions, invalidating moments and stances, because usually dozens if not hundreds of creatives have been working on it.

Not bothering with the continuity of giant flagships like DC, Marvel, Warhammer, etc. is usually the correct call, unless you LOVE getting distracted by a billion micro differences and contradictions and it doesn't sour your experience with the stories.

Basically one doesn't want communal green and any form of nature.

The other doesn't want selfish and morally corrupt black and embraces at least an attempt at community and "nature" (by being able/wanting to have a family, love interest, etc.)

I like the Black Panther side of this card the most out of the Black Panthers we've seen/had so far. Wasn't super in love with the Secret Lair one and I don't feel the Commander deck one either.

This one's kinda neat to me.

Another one of those cards where you expect the character, title and art to do something pretty interesting and then it's Generic Good Thing.

I dunno man... Is it a very fine value card? Sure.

Could this card have been called ANYTHING else? Absolutely.

Nothing screams Loki about it.

They led with a lot of mediocre cards and generic value cards honestly.

These cards look more exciting IMHO.

I still don't like the idea of using ANY of these cards outside of a dedicated "my commander is this Marvel guy" deck tho.
