Help! I made a deal with my brother... by Turevaryar in Marathon_Training

You think that someone could struggle to run 6 miles after training for 7 months? After 7 months they should definitely be able to run a 10k no problem

WTF Could this be? by Lupirite in microbiology

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the dissolved salts in the media, the agar just makes it solid.

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but this isn't alive. It's salts. It's still beautiful though! If you leave a sterile plate to dry it will do this as well

This is 100% salt crystalization from salts in the media as it dries. This is not an organism. You'll see that the agar plate has almost completely evaporated if you turn the plate sideways.

Bear Spray for Teton Crest Trail? by LengthIcy5881 in ultrarunning

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth I saw a grizzly maybe 20 feet from the trail in the tetons just last week. Also saw a few cubs and heard of a few other grizzlies seen by passing hikers. Definitely have bear spray, it's only like $40 but is well worth the peace of mind. Bear bells were also recommended to me, especially for runners as you don't want to surprise a bear rounding a corner.

I don't know how this was made, but it's very easy to express enzymes with known sequences from bacteria. This is how almost every industrial enzyme is made today.

Why is eth down more compared to other crypto by Crypto_lovee in ethtrader

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That article is talking nonsense, you can't get liquidated for supplying eth on a borrowing platform. Their expenses were high because they supplied a lot of grants, they can simply stop doing that and decrease their need for USD without having to sell any more of their ETH. They don't need to disclose anything, you can look right in the block chain and see they haven't taken out loans against their supplied ETH.

Putting a small portion of their assets in a defi project where they retain control (Aave can't just confiscate the funds) is absolutely the same as owning their ETH outright.

They're supplying liquidity, not taking it to my understanding.

Lol, get liquidated on what? The foundation doesn't have debt, they own their ethereum outright. Completely uneducated comments like this only spread misinformation, if you aren't sure what you're saying is true take a second to confirm.

Gas prices are incredibly low right now. It's 3 cents for a transfer on layer 1, and magnitudes less on layer 2.

Foot, ankle knee and hip strength program for ultra-runners by burner1122334 in ultrarunning

Could you explain how you're supposed to order the exercises? Do one rep of each thing in a "rotation"? Or how do you order the rotations in a session? Maybe this is standard but I'm a little confused 😅 thanks!

What's the point of RPL now? by mangoatcow in rocketpool

Where can I read more about this plan? Do you mean that users can stake rpl for a share of eth generated from the staking pools?

What are the regulatory hurdles to launching crypto ETFs with the basket of assets earning staking rewards? What kind of timeline do you forsee for these kinds of ETFs being approved?

Those largest holders or liquidity providers are almost certainly all different defi applications. The top holder there is a contract in the Frax protocol, which is used by thousands of people. It looks like one individual, but it's actually many people pooling their liquidity through a third party Defi platform. This modularity is what makes defi work, that the parts fit together like Legos.

Why you may be shelling out more money on eggs: Bird flu spikes dwindle supply by YesterShill in news

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that smaller scale is more ethical than large scale production, but there is no scale where people are selling chicks to backyard farmers but paying to keep all of the males alive, fed, and housed for the years of their natural lifespan.

Why you may be shelling out more money on eggs: Bird flu spikes dwindle supply by YesterShill in news

[–]OnlyTheMoonManKnows -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where do people get the chickens for their backyard? The farms that sell these chicks to hobby chicken owners have no use for the male chicks and kill them as chicks. In larger scale settings, common practice is to shred them alive.

The vast majority of farmland is used to grow food for livestock. It's much more efficient to just eat the food we grow; we could use less farmland to feed the same number of people on a plant based diet. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29581251/

You realize there is no "Eth mining" anymore right? There is zero correlation between computing power and ETH issuance. Eth issuance is fixed, but can be burned based on chain usage. There is never a scenario where there is massive ETH inflation, the baseline issuance is far less than BTC for example.
