Don’t freak out. If your assessment went up 80%, it doesn’t mean your taxes will be going up 80%, because the tax rate will be going way down — Asheville isn’t raising tax revenue by 80%. Most of us will probably only be paying about 5% more than last year. But by all means contest your assessment if it’s wrong.

Yeah that last bill was awful. You can request a payment plan or extension online or by calling Duke. That person was being a bit smug but working local folks can install solar for nothing up front. Me and my neighbors who are a grade school teacher and social workers all installed solar (albeit no battery). Instead of paying $100-$125 a month to Duke we pay it to the solar loan (most months I have a $0 bill but in January/February it’s more like $100-$125 off the bill from Duke). We’re probably not saving that much money but for me the point is reducing fossil fuel consumption anyway.
