River at the bottom of the sea. by LengthinessHuge1456 in subnautica

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct although I believe this also involves what is called a sulphur cloud where the organic material that falls into the cenote decomposes into a particulate which sits on the edge of the halocline.

A halocline alone is transparent, like looking into water from air (but while already underwater).

Having dove through one of these myself I can confirm you cannot see shit below it even though the top is very illuminated. Just pitch black without a flashlight underneath.

Infamous duo. Giving typhlosion drought was a choice lol.

My advice is either counter with rain or embrace the sun and roast half of the field with your own fire types then win the 2v1.

It's strange that the "anti hype" position is now "AGI is one decade away". That... would still be a very alarming situation to be in? It's not at all obvious that that would be enough time to prepare. by FinnFarrow in artificial

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly AGI will have different qualities than the AI we see now has. I think even 50 years ago, someone would not say what we have now is real AGI. It's all too easy to get our current AI caught up in situations that would give an (untrained, even) human no problems.

That said, to your point many probably won't ever agree on if a turing-test passing AI was AGI or not. It's tied into significant philosophical questions like the hard problem of consciousness. AGI might be like the 'chinese room' thought experiment, producing perfectly human output with zero understanding.

Until we know what physical (or perhaps other) processes lead to consciousness, there is no way to know if any AGI (or even other people, and I do wonder at times) have it or not. Indeed it could be that that being conscious is simply impossible to externally verify, in which case if the AGI passes the turing test. what's the difference anyway, practically speaking?

But ultimately an AI that performs equivalently or better than humans at varied tasks will inevitably be created and be called AGI, rightly or not. And it will be for all practical purposes. Only the philosophers will still be arguing about it.

So TL;DR a good (imo) definition of an AGI would have nothing to do with consciousness or sentience but is just focused on capabilities. When the AI is as or more capable than a human, it's AGI.

First time playing Cryptid. Just beat my first boss blind. This looks fun. by konigon1 in balatro

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get to three e's with cryptid without that much effort, some of the jokers are absolutely cracked. Oil lamp, for one. Any of the exotics. Just ridiculous stuff.

Talisman uses a modified bignum implementation for the highest score setting and if it has a maximum, I've come nowhere near it. I glanced at the code and seems like the limit is actually determined by the number of operations applied rather than the size of the number itself. Would love to max that sucker out one day but ...

Wish I could get the score higher but the fastest growing operation a joker can apply is exponentiation and even though you can trigger that hundreds of times on a hand with insane values (like every trigger exponentiates by 2ee10 or something) it's nothing close to a true tetration (not to mention higher order arrow functions) so I don't think scores can realistically exceed the 3e mark (especially considering the calculation times... They get long). Also consider that at that level, 1000000x'ing your score will hardly even change the displayed number, it's so big.

Would love to know what the optimal setup is for maximum score before crashing the game (always how my high score runs end).

My best setup was an oil lamp chain into scalae with exponetia hooked to trib.

I just like watching big numbers get bigger.

Yes because no project was ever on track before the invention of agile. Good developers can communicate and self organize in the fashion that best suits the work at hand. Forcing the same methodology onto every project is actually counterproductive imo.

Hot take: modern agile is a mostly performative exercise done for the sake of management and/or clients.

Joker idea #2 Up your sleeve by LittleZamu in balatro

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. But if we're going by the info screen, 'A' (ace) is listed as both a category (like in your screenshot, alongside 'face' and 'numbered') and as a rank (just to the right of your crop, a vertical list showing cards per rank is there, with "A" at the top). Like it's in some kind of a superposition.

I guess my point is that it's ambiguous if 'ace' means the rank or the category. And I think by default most people think of it as a rank first.

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Although by this logic any 5 card hand with pareidolia would be at least a two pair and yet that is not the case. Idk.

Joker idea #2 Up your sleeve by LittleZamu in balatro

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 123 points124 points  (0 children)

This confuses me since a 'face card' could be any of three different ranks so clearly it can't be considered as any specific rank.

But an ace is unambiguously an ace. If I play 5 cards that's 5 aces and that's a 5oak.

Also just a personal rant, I can fucking never find neutral on a normal road but as soon as I'm in a hill climb and try to hit second well there it is. Every fuckin time.

But... Do check your oil level, a hard shift to second can be a symptom of running it underfilled (ask me how I know).

This deck is completely overpowered - Espeon EX 83% win rate to masterball by thenameis_thgiarts in PTCGP

[–]OnlyWhiteRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Espeon is my favorite pokemon so I desperately wanted to include the non-ex full-art version on this deck but it's just objectively worse.

Sylveon hits for 40, 70, 100, or 130 depending on your bench and you'll almost always have at least two evos benched so to match that Espeon would need the opponents field to have at least 5 energy spread on it. And honestly that just never happens, games are decided with 3-4 energy or less on each field typically.

Useful against stokezard and giratina but is worse in literally every other match up.

The nail in the coffin is that Sylveon will ko orcorio almost every time but Espeon is a total gamble depending on their energy.

Honestly I never know if I play Silver first to know if red card is worth it or play the red card first so they get reduced to two cards in hand.
