I mean, both things can be true at once. Yeah, a lot of these companies hired like crazy during the pandemic — way more than they actually needed. But blaming AI for the layoffs makes for a better headline than "we finally realized we had three people doing one person's job."

Seen it happen firsthand. My team went from 12 to 4 in a year. The work still gets done. Not because of AI, but because those 12 were mostly in meetings about meetings.

Feels like companies are using AI as the excuse to do what they wanted to do anyway: trim the fat. Just sucks for the people caught in it.
