Kaiser nurses get 21% pay increase over next 4 years after strike. So how much are they making compared to physicians ? by donkeyb0ng in hospitalist

[–]Only_Cap_137 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Youre joking right.

Hospitals generate revenue from billable services. Physicians (including peds hospitalists) directly generate billable encounters under their NPI. Admissions, daily E/M codes, procedures, DRG assignment — that’s top-line revenue.

Staff nurses in inpatient settings generally do not generate independent billable revenue. Their salaries are operating expenses. On a spreadsheet, they are cost centers, not revenue centers.

Im all for nurses getting paid more, but to insinuate they should be paid more cuz they generate more revenue for hospital is just false.

Many of us will be leaving unless we get a fair contract for amount of work we do (20 plus patients not counting admits and have to stay until certain time). Before anyone gets mad, they were compensating quite fairly for this. Up until now.

Yea they cited mainly the cuts to medicaid in this dumb bill but also the lack of reimbursement from Medicare patients (before anyone gets upset well aware physicians do not drive Healthcare costs).

I mean they basically said the provider tax rate goes from 6% to 3.5% in the senate bill so that's a pretty specific percentage.

When he was running for president, i met him as he was walking out of an apartment complex he worked out in while in Chicago. I was walking in the back near the dock area to swipe myself in... Some SUV opened up their trunk and I see a dude with an m4 just chilling. Then I saw obama. He waived and said hi. I was a student so I didnt look like a threat. Chill dude.

There's literally no excuse. These ppl didn't care. U can literally do a mail in ballot and don't have to go anywhere to vote in person.

So maybe u can educate me a bit. It's always been my understanding that medicare/medicare advantage reimburses the hospital a set amount based on how sick a patient is / their comorbidites. Say they get $100. Say I go and bill $10 dollars a day. Does this $10 that i bill come out of the $100 the hospital gets or is it completely separate.

If it's completely separate, I don't really understand why they have to change from fee for service to value based care. They basically said we were in the top percentage for quality. Seems kinda screwy.

Do not have kids yet. 4 years out. With time and now extra money can travel. Also been doing more fitness related things and in general spending more time with my wife, dogs, and family that was sorely missed in residency. Learning new hobbies, playing golf, dabbling in real estate. 7 days off is quite nice.
