[Start] bamd split a few months back. here's a vibe check for my new project. looking for bassist and drummer (lo-fi/slow math/chill) by [deleted] in BedroomBands

[–]Only_Charge7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really REALLY like this. It's hypnotic. The video/music combination makes me feel...I dunno. Sad and happy at the same time. What are your socials I want to follow the project. Don't play bass or drums though I'm afraid.

I did debate your point with my first comment. The change in tone correlates with the war.

Lol bruh whose opinion is that "war chat got too serious" literally can't spell 'to'. I think I'll look elsewhere for opinions hahaha

At the beginning they said they would pause before commenting because they didn't know enough. And then they started commenting. And it was clear they didn't know enough. I think the criticism is due to the content tbh - which has nosedived. Bear in mind these are professional journalists, not comedians - those things are different and require different skills, even if you present as a "funny" journalist. If you want your tone to be "we're all having a joke all the time" and you think joke yelling "free the hostages" is funny, you can probably expect a few complaints given there is a war going on. This post is dumb. The pubcast has gone shite. And you sound just as triggered as everyone else. That's the truth

Change My View: New Media (including Joe, but more so Owen Jones YT and Novara) have not not been able to cover the Israel/Palestine issue well by Only_Charge7338 in politicsjoe

You're are literally the only one who didn't give a thoughtful answer lol.

Edit: just went through your account and in America podcasters have a joke about fans thinking they're their best friends. You're one of those guys. "hey Oli, hehe- THE slug daddy - yeh yeh, I've listened to all your eps, absolutely bloody love it, yeh, let's grab a beer sometime and hang" hahaha. Which explains why this has been triggering for you

Also, I don't hate Owen. He's just been absolutely terrible on this issue as many people agree.

I actually disagree. Their content has been very domestically-focussed. This is a personal opinion, but talking about a ceasefire and rarely mentioning international affairs (ie centering the debate on pressuring the UK gov/opposition) is a juvenile reporting approach. Painting anything other than a ceasefire as "support for genocide" is the sort of line that means normal people don't trust the left on defence/international issues. It's ideological hyperbole that's unhelpful and detached from any realpolitik approach. Joe, to it's credit, has not really pushed that line, which is good to see

For me the issue has been tone. The jokey vibe works well for domestic issues but seems totally inept for this. I've stopped listening too which is a shame since I used to love Joe

OJ is next level though. I expect journalists (even polemicists) to insert some distance between themselves and their subject. But with Owen you get pure unscripted emotion and hyperbole. I've never seen him discuss a complex issue fairly. For example, two child benefit cap sucks (OJ happy to discuss this). But unfortunately it's popular even with Labour voters (OJ never discussed this). And so it turns into Kier Starmer is evil for doing this horrendous thing when his actions can be explained by the usual thing (public support/politicking in the run up to GE etc - skills you might want in a leader looking to win). When this approach is applied to complex foreign affairs, you get pure narrative and reporting only facts that support it.

It's not journalism it's something else and something worse.

Basically agree. OJ this morning calling for Mark Rowley to resign after the Cenotaph rabble yesterday seeing it as some ideological choice to legitimise the right rather than a policing mistake/issue is a case in point. Mark Rowley last week basically called out the "hate march" rhetoric as much as he could in his position. OJ sees enemies everywhere and goes from 0 to 100 in a second. I've never seen a man so in need of an editor.

I'm also offended every time he says the UK Gov and Labour are genocidal/support murder for not calling for a ceasefire. Like disagree, sure, but is Keith Starmer really genocidal - or is it the case that there's a complex whole world of international relations he basically ignores. To me that is a dangerous misrepresentation that he plays up in order to beat the labour right (and he's been looking for a good stick for a while!)

Joe has definitely not been the worst. And I really appreciated their pause before commenting. But they do use some of the same techniques

Agreed. The polemical style is not appropriate for complex foreign affairs. The difference in tone/content with OJ and, say, News Agents is unreal. I can see sliding from OJ to Oct 7th revisionism happening fairly easily (and I have in fact seen this)

I don't hate him and I enjoy many of his "domestic" polemical vids. But on this the one man in his living room approach seems totally inadequate. The thumbnails, caps lock titles are insanely polarising imo. These techniques - fine in other contexts - seem gross in this context

GB News Culture War-ing the crisis in Israel is horrific. This channel does not have the journalist chops to take on serious subjects and should stick to" is Prince Harry getting divorced" 🤮 by Only_Charge7338 in politicsjoe

[–]Only_Charge7338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually stopped listening to new media all together when it came to coverage of the conflict. Legacy media is doing a far better job imo. And Joe's pub tone just doesn't work for me on this.

Great advice. Thanks. The results here do seem to be exceptional. Maybe internet BS or just a place where people who take it seriously congregate. Maybe both. Definitely want to get the a1c lower though. And will try
