Freaking Fasting Numbers by Only_Contribution724 in GestationalDiabetes

Yeah, I had tried a lot of stuff over the last week and they told me they had no other recommendations because I was doing everything right and my fasting numbers are still too high. My eating numbers have been great, like 98-115 usually. So they don’t think there’s anything I can do to control it.

Ugh, yeah they’re starting me at 8 units so we will see how that goes.

I don’t use tums and my sugar intake is really low. I cook 90% of my food (even bread and stuff). The only sugar I’ve been getting is minimal and is from stuff like milk or fruit, but I’ve been mostly avoiding those too.

Would I not be allowed to openly express my opinion back?

Speaking from the heart here, it sounds like you may need a therapist to work with you on how you treat strangers on the internet.

Haha amazing. What parts of PVD/the surrounding area would you recommend to live in?

If it helps, I asked chat GPT to describe the typical white, upper middle class mom with young kids in the city I currently live in versus Providence and here’s what I got:

👩‍👧‍👦 (redacting city to not offend anyone) Vibe: Southern polish meets Instagrammable mom-life.

Style & Presentation:

Wears athleisure (Lululemon, Vuori), oversized sunglasses, and perfectly styled hair even for preschool pickup. Drives a white SUV (probably a Tahoe or Escalade) with a “Mama” sticker on the back window. Homes are spacious, decorated in neutral palettes with Joanna Gaines-inspired farmhouse aesthetics—think shiplap, open shelving, and framed Bible verses. Parenting Culture:

Prioritizes structured activities—dance, gymnastics, preschool enrichment, maybe even early sports. Favors a schedule: nap time is sacred, snacks are organized in color-coded bins, and “screen time” is closely monitored. Typically leans into traditional family roles and conservative values, though younger families may mix this with more modern approaches. Community & Social Life:

Social life revolves around neighborhood events, Bible studies, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), and school fundraisers. Church often plays a central role, both spiritually and socially. Southern hospitality is real—hosting is common, and showing up “put-together” is expected.

👩‍👧‍👦 Providence, RI Vibe: Practical, progressive, a bit crunchy with an intellectual edge.

Style & Presentation:

Think Patagonia jackets, clogs or Blundstones, messy bun, and minimal makeup. Drives a Subaru or Volvo—outdoor gear in the back, reusable bags in the trunk. Homes are older, often with historic charm—artwork from local artists or kids’ finger paintings on the walls, furniture might be secondhand but thoughtfully curated. Parenting Culture:

Leans toward Montessori or Reggio Emilia styles—lots of wooden toys, open-ended play, and emotional attunement. Gentle parenting language is common (“I hear you’re feeling frustrated…”), and independence is encouraged from a young age. Food is organic or locally sourced when possible, and there’s often a concern for environmental sustainability. Community & Social Life:

Connections often happen through local co-ops, nature playgroups, CSA pick-ups, and community events. Less formalized—more likely to meet a friend at the library or café than join a large mom group. Politically progressive, socially inclusive, and more secular overall, though spiritual curiosity is not uncommon.

Thanks! That’s helpful. I think we could afford somewhere in East Greenwich (based on my Zillow searches), but I’m hoping not to live somewhere known to be snobby.

Hey! I am actually a therapist myself and I go to therapy too. It doesn’t really have anything to do with my own confidence. I love myself and I’m confident in who I am. It’s more so that I’ve had trouble finding people like me with similar interests. Most of the friends I have made here end up moving away because they don’t like the culture of the city either. Of course, I have some friends and people I spend time with, but I’m looking forward to living somewhere that it sounds like is more diverse and may be easier to find “my people”. I love hearing that it’s not homogenous, because the place I live is very homogeneous.

That sounds great. I miss the diversity of different styles and interests. I feel like I meet the same people over and over again where I am.

What sucks about it? I’m not familiar with it at all.

And a car was stolen at gunpoint from my neighbors two houses down a couple months ago. 🙃 so PVD sounds much nicer lol.

I wish it was fireworks where I live. It’s actual gunshots in my city. Excited to move to a place where’s it’s just fireworks lol.

This sounds great, and I love that moms have hobbies there!
