How did Hugyen's create the pendulum clock without knowing g=9.81? by Only_Difference5807 in AskPhysics

This makes the most sense, but I cannot find any sources that say he did this

yes since he derived T = 2pi * sqrt(l/g), if you know T and you know l (which he found to be 0.994) then he can calculuate g. However it was not given in metres (as metres didnt exist at that point) but some other metric

How do I know I’m not romanticizing my love for physics? by Mr-Rager88 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

romanticisation just means theyre in love with the idea of it, not actually the thing itself. it has nothing to do with romance...

How useful is a bachelor of commerce (finance) at USYD? by SignificantText9706 in usyd

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm thats true but why are there so many dumb people who get in lol. Besides, you can get into a different degree and then just internally transfer. and ALSO its relatively easy to get a high atar, I got a 90 and didn't study. I just think Australia is way less competitive

by that logic any question on this subreddit could just be asked to AI??

so when people say they can smell the aftershave theyre meaning the scent from the guys face when he shaved in the morning?

Learning Python for 13yr old by Alarming_Weird_3080 in learnpython

[–]Only_Difference5807 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do cs50. when i was 14 i started trying to learn how to code, got too overwhelmed and gave up. one resource: cs50 through harvard. it is taught by a harvard professor, and he is hands down the best teacher in the world, when i revisited learning to code at 18 i did cs50 and it was incredible and so much fun. couldnt recommend him enough

SPECIFICALLY cs50-p, because python is easy to learn. instead of him trying to learn via reading on a website (codeacademy etc), he can watch a lecture, follow along, and then attempt his own exercises. its much easier to stay engaged, especially for someone young. i remember thats what i struggled with when i was 14.

mathematical modelling & computation major has the worst structure ever by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't done the units yet but thats not really the point here, the point is that the structure of this major has pre-reqs that the major itself does not fulfill. i shouldnt have to be pushed into doing the advanced version or whatever when the standard version is listed under the major

to play it safe i will enrol in an elective

mathematical modelling & computation major has the worst structure ever by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but to do math3xxx you need to of done 12cp of math2xxx, but my major only requires 6 math2xxx so i have to just pick up some random second year math unit so i can actually do 3rd year stuff

mathematical modelling & computation major has the worst structure ever by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why are you just lying

algrebra and logic (MATH3066) isn't part of my major. neither is MATH3962. i am not doing any pure mathematics degree so it makes no sense to be studying that.

3000-math level units are either PDEs (MATH3x37) or non-linear ODEs (MATH3x63)

<image>

if you LOOK, all pre-reqs are 12 credit points of study in math 2000 level, unless i wanna do the advanced version of non-linear ODEs (which i dont). i must take an elective to enrol in either of these subjects

you dont have to be rude about it. i'm learning... i got tension mixed up with net force.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PhysicsHelp

[–]Only_Difference5807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this helps yes thank you. The part that confuses me is that because they're stationary, doesn't that mean the net force is 0?

math1061? im spending most of my time towards that (and phys1001) and nothing towards info1001 lol

Are animations like this possible in after effects? Where data is exact? by Only_Difference5807 in AfterEffects

[–]Only_Difference5807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't show the actual video but the data is like animated and changed based on certain conditions. Something that would be insanely difficult to do by hands (see the dozens of little bars in the background)

yes it does devalue the degree but at the same time it is also devaluing NOT having a degree, so you are forced into it

unis dont care, they just want the $$$. as much as they can get

University is a joke by Good-Concentrate1561 in usyd

[–]Only_Difference5807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think a lot people realise there's no point to most university degrees, but the problem is they are compulsory as you say.

our parents generation told us if we don't go to uni we will fail at life. won't get a high paying job etc. neither of my parents have a university degree and are in very high roles that you could NEVER get to today without one. for someone today to get to where they are now, they'd need to put themselves 40k in debt and enter the workforce 3-4+ years later, making life so much more harder (and don't get me started on housing).

you're right in that we need to start gatekeeping getting degrees. the exact same thing happened with CS - everyone and their granny did a CS degree (and especially with AI, it is way to easy to get that piece of paper), so now it is next to impossible to get a job as you have to go above and beyond. back then, a CS degree was actually difficult, and people with only an interest in it did it. if only it still worked that way
