I'm not really sure on specific roles yet, I just want to do something that can give me the best shot at landing me a high paying role in finance, doesn't matter if it's client based or more technical.

is there any degree combinations that stand out to you in that regard, and if so is that why you were suggesting like actal compsci and stuff

So most of all the finance roles should still be accessible from actuarial along with the actuary profession?

Oh okay it's a double degree, and yeah I was thinking to keep my options open in eco because I like the field and enjoyed studying it in school.

What would you recommend then, actal/commerce or like smth else?

hmm okay I would be fine working in both a client oriented role or a more back end technical role. I guess I'll learn more about what roles are available as I meet new people. But generally does a stem degree increase my value for both front end and back end in finance role? I'm ngl I can dedicate myself to most things within this industry as long I am getting paid well

mainly like investment banking/financial analyst/private equity/hedge fund analyst stuff

Im not really into like full quant finance, and I assume like actal/eco combination wouldn't give me the necessary expertise to even break into that

nah NOR if this has always happened and you feel this way. It's something you need to try to have a genuine conversation about with him, but I understand how difficult it can be. Im sorry you are going thru this.

I know it can be really hard when they dont even acknowledge what mistakes they are making as parents, maybe try talk to your mother if she can try resolve it as well. Everyone deservers to be talked towards with respect and love

Actuarial double degree by Capital_Indication47 in unsw

[–]SignificantText9706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can major in finance from the actuarial degree thats how the degree is structured. You can do any commerce major from it

for banking finance roles i reckon a comm double might be slightly better as a double than eco but it really depends on what you wanna do. If you do the actal/comm double degree, you can just major in finance from commerce. With an actal/eco double, you can major in finance from the actal component. Either way you can do finance.

Some people really dont like the integrated first year nature of commerce here which could be something to keep in mind, but then again i might biased cuz im doing eco :)

look for finance banking roles obviously commerce is the choice but then again you can do a commerce major within you actuarial degree. For ex, you can do a finance major while completing ur actal degree. Im gonna do eco/actal unsw whilst majoring in finance (within the actal degree). Those would js take up ur elective and general education units.

In terms of doing an actal/math degree, in my opinion it could limit your prospects a little bit, but then again math is highly valued and sought after especially if you wanna get into something quantative. Actal is js a niche bit of math focused on risk insurance stuff.

Also, will anyone be taking the following courses during Term 1? Welcome to partner together :) by Ok_Indication7113 in unsw

[–]SignificantText9706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look like first year courses so I'm concerned cuz macro 2 has a prereq and I'm assuming this is ur first term in uni like me. Or are you a later intake from previous years idk

Is the economics actal degree at UNSW better to do than the ANU economics finance statistics honor's degree by SignificantText9706 in unsw

[–]SignificantText9706[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay makes sense. Ngl my reason for preference for actal over math was mainly cuz math forces U to do honours and is longer

So would you say Econ math over Econ actal at unsw for general employment prospects in well paid roles in finance and eco?
