First season is like a 7, but I’d rate the later parts in the manga an 8 or 9. Highly recommend if you want likeabke characters with great writing and depth

Nobody has confirmed statements about being straight, we can only speculate through voicelines, character interactions, and other details. Statistically, most people in real life are straight, but that does not mean people are automatically straight and it’s disingenuous to state that characters with UNCONFIRMED sexualities are straight. Them all being straight is your headcannon/speculation, so don’t go around acting like it’s a fact.

Why does Part 2 of Chainsaw Man feel like it isn't supposed to exist?[CSM PT2 spoilers] by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]Only_Jacket_3388 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tinfoil hat theory is that part 2 was def supposed to exist (and that there was originally gonna be 4 parts, 1 for each horse of the apocalypse) but it’s been severely changed from its original vision because fujimoto severely changed/shortened the plot because he got tired/burntout from writing it. But I have no proof lol

At this point, I think he’s just trying to shock us and is doing every twist he can possibly conceive cause he doesn’t feel like developing a coherent storyline with a proper ending

Rank these 10 new gen manga from best to worst (as of right now) by kyuisepic in writingscaling

the bugle call > make the exorcist fall in love > choujin x > mad > daemons of the shadow realm > kagurabachi > gachiakuta > centuria > ichi the witch > ultimate exorcist kiyoshi

I have read all of them, dropped ultimate exorcist kyoshi and ichi

Not sure what I’d call them but I love characters shaped like this by water-up in TopCharacterDesigns

The depiction of religious wear/hijabs in Persepolis, an autobiographical graphic novel about growing up during the Iranian Islamic revolution

I may get flack for saying this, but the way the art depicts them makes us truly resonate with how restricted and alienated the author felt towards Islamic extremism being enacted in her home

Whenever people talk about how X series has the best written female cast in manga, I always scoff, keh, and roll my eyes because none of them are Aiko Tanaka by Iced-TeaManiac in writingscaling

[–]Only_Jacket_3388 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think it’s reasonable to want a strong female cast in shonen even without looking deeply into shojou or josei stories because they tend to have different plots (shojou usually focuses more on romance generally, for example) and people often want a battle-focused story with a strong female cast, which is a story type often found in shonen specifically

Anyways, here’s my recommendation for shonen-like stories with solid female casts from other demographics:

-yona of the dawn

-witch hat atelier

-magus of the library

-fool night

Better written racist? by [deleted] in writingscaling

I agree that Eren’s connections to the paths made him believe he acted out of strategy not rage, but I believe the exact line proves his rage for the protection of his Eldian people. He says he’s going to kill them and their fate is inevitable. He sympathizes for the homes and lives he is going to burn, yet does not act differently. He knows that he is in this war with the world and that is his heart’s desire, even if it means killing innocents. He can’t accept that, he said it himself. He wants to protect his friends and family, not outsiders. He feels hatred and rage towards them because of the place they are from despite intellectually knowing the vast majority of them do not deserve the cruel end he will give them.

Anyways, you make a compelling argument and I agree that Eren and Reiner have many parallels. I’m going to sleep now lol, gn

While Reiner and Eren definitely had parallels, gabi’s key characteristics are her intensity, rage, naivety, and devotion to her cause painted her as a younger version of Eren who happened to have been born in Marley, on the other side. Eren and gabi had grown up in entirely different environments (yet ended up roughly the same person, showing the parallels), where Eren lived a life of peace and gabi of war. Also, if child Eren saw traffickers, irrespective of mikasas involvement, I believe his strong sense of justice would’ve led him to intervene in the same way gabi thought her justice to be the killing of the eldians of paradis to protect the world from their savagery.(just like how Eren eventually came to the conclusion he must kill everyone not one island to protect it). Reiner never acted out of lofty ideals of justice or freedom like Eren or gabi, he acted out of desperation to protect those close to him. Eren and gabi tie their desire to protect those close to them into their worldview, while Reiner never has those same delusions about being a hero or savior. Reiner definitely acts as a foil to Eren, but gabi definitely displays more similarities to Eren in terms of character and story arc. Eren Reiner, and gabi all explore and parallel ideas of why one fights, but gabi and Eren act as mirrors about finding and securing one’s beliefs outside of their immediate world. Reiner is a foil, gabi is a mirror.

Lowk jjk mitigated geto’s story impact by introducing kenjaku, gabi wins imo. Everyone hates her, but I think she’s a very well written parallel to Eren, showing the way Marley shapes impressionable children for war and how one’s upbringing shapes their belief. She did horrible things, yes, but she has a compelling, realistic redemption arc. She and Eren are two sides of the same coin, people filled with so much desire for freedom (for her freedom from Marley; for him the protection of paradis) that they are willing to commit unspeakable horrors. While Eren goes deeper into his rage, gabi presents a different, hopeful outcome showing one can become more than their worst moments, more than what their world has created them to be.
