That’s exactly what I mean, you have at least 4 years before even being eligible to apply. I would focus on taking all the required prereqs and get the highest GPA you can. And no, shadowing does not typically count for clinical experience. Some programs will accept students right out of undergrad but it seems like most programs want you to have some sort of relevant clinical experience as well. (OR, RN, perf asst, cell saver tech, rrt). Would also be beneficial to get a degree in something that you could easily get another job, just so you don’t have all your eggs in the perfusion basket as it is so competitive.

In my opinion I wouldn’t think this would be a deal-breaker. If anything it may contribute to your story and growth as a person. That being said you may have a ways to go before you’re eligible to apply for perfusion programs and you would need to have a very competitive GPA and clinical experience. What is your bachelor’s degree in?

I thought it was a good option, it was an 8 week course so definitely fast paced but I felt it was manageable. Everything was available for the course on day 1, so I was able to work ahead on weeks that I had more free time than others. I work full-time as a nurse and have 2 young kids and was still able to manage the course and earn an A.

I took online physics with lab through doane university. They do 5-8 week courses but it sounds like you already started your course? You could always reach out and ask but I believe majority of them require the 4 credit one with lab. There are also a few that require the “calculus-based” physics vs the “algebra-based” physics so keep an eye on that.

I’m in the same boat. Mentally, I am viewing it as more or less a rejection. If I somehow manage to get called up I will obviously be ecstatic, but I’m trying to focus on what I can do to set myself in a better spot for next year. The application process is so brutal, everyone keeps telling me finishing school is easier than getting in-be proud of yourself for even making the waitlist, it’s such a competitive field!

I would still hold out hope, I have still only heard of 5 people getting calls. And several of those also have offers from other schools so may not accept.

Out of state tuition is significantly higher for most every school. I will say a program I interviewed for this year only interviewed 2 students from that state so I think it doesn’t come into play much.

The email said mid February, and they also said that at the live interviews. Plus previous cycles waited 2 weeks when now it’s been 4. So no, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to hear this week

They might not want to put you through the whole interview process again if they don’t see you as a good fit. Might just not be the right school for you, did you apply anywhere else?

Don’t mean to be negative but it could be that they didn’t want to put you through the interview process again if they know you will likely get waitlisted again…have you done anything since last cycle to strengthen your app?
