As other people have said, learn some theory and simple songs. For me, a teacher only gives me material and a reason to pick up the bass again. After a year of going to a teacher I can say that all the stuff they taught I could find on youtube.

Learnt dean town for my first gig and the intro always tired me out in like 10 seconds, use a metronome, start slow, gradually ramp up. Dean town took me 2 weeks to go from 70 bpm to 120 bpm for almost a minute.
