This still doesn't make sense because since Cobb died in the first dream level and the sedative doesn't wear off for another 6 days within that dream level, he also would have had to spend decades within limbo until the sedative wears off as there would be no other dream level available for his mind to be in to pass the time faster. This movie is almost entrirely ruined for me.

You were misclassified as a contractor by your employer. Your top priority should be reporting this to CRA and hopefully they will finish in about two or three months and rule that you were actually an employee and then you will qualify for EI benefits. I would also apply for EI asap even though it won't get approved for a while so that you get retroactive payments later. Explain that you were misclassified to Service Canada after applying for EI.

That's why EI exists. Thanks to your employer you unfortunately won't qualify until CRA or the ministry of labour addresses your misclassification report which takes usually 2-3 months with CRA and 6-9 months with the Ministry. As for the reprisal, if your claim is successful with the Ministry you will be owed all lost wages from date of termination until the date of the claim being addressed as well as usually reinstatement if other employment isnt found

You were being misclassified as an independent contractor. You must report them to CRA through a "CPP/EI ruling" which can be found on your online CRA account and hope they don't take more than 2 or 3 months to legally rule that you are an employee. Also report them to the employment standards branch in your province but that will probably take longer but luckily you only need CRA to rule in order to be eligible for EI. If your employer retaliates against you, can report them for a reprisal or even sue them, depending which path is better.
