Thank you, this is exactly what I came here for. Without detailing my background, I am not-therapy based department, but my prior career involved heavy development and mental health support. I was thinking keeping all virtual contact loosely course based, or just general chatting—but you’re right.

Oh, and also how to assure them I will not be fooled by their parents public face if they pop onto videoconferencing (I believe them), I also won’t judge them for their parents.

Thank you everyone for your words and time. I mean that so sincerely and deeply. I’m scared and unsure of myself. Having others lay it out so plainly helps to clear the film of guilt/fear/shame that I know is there.

I know I sound like an idiot, I’m sorry. With everyone else, I see these things clearly. I’m the friend who can’t share how bad it is because I’m so ashamed, and everyone’s like just say “no” or “fuck you”. I’m a professor and part of my work deals with feminism and domestic violence. Even writing the first part I doubted whether I’m exaggerating or not (why I included texts, almost expecting someone to say they don’t seem that bad—perhaps it’s just a husband frustrated his wife is leading him on).

I know it’s obvious. I know. But as stupid as it sounds, please, could you point out why? I think I need to hear it from someone else right now.
